440:Satisfaction (named after the 93/KHJ cart number for the Rolling Stones hit "Satisfaction") is run by ex-Boss Jock Johnny Williams. It's updated every so often by Williams according to his knowledge of jocks' whereabouts, generally available trade publication/newspaper info, and by jocks/others sending emails to Williams with their info and updates.

Unless something comes into Williams, the info stays "as is" to the date of the last update.

Really? I had no idea. Cool!

Yeah, I believe he would call his engineer for that at least once per 6-hour overnight show. He'd just call out "440"--and up would pop the opening strains of "Satisfaction".

It was a hit either during, or not long after, Boss Radio hit LA in May 1965, so during Williams' run there, it held special significance.

Anyone know whatever happended to Jeff Kinsbach(sp?)? Flash stayed around...working for city hall isn't he? Never heard anything about Jeff after, obviously they're run at MMS and then at, was it, afternoons for WHK?
Did he try another market or get out of radio alltogether?

Jeff & Flash tried PM Drive on WTAM, then still called 3WE "The Monster on the Lake". Only lasted about year I think, can't recall thru the haze. It all runs together.

Flash is communications director for the Cleveland Municipal Court (didn't know they needed one, but whatever). If you get a parking or speeding ticket and want info on how much you need to "donate" to the Believe in Cleveland campaign, Flash is also the auto-animated voice on the court's phone system.

He also does a fair amount of commercial voiceover and production work, and until very recently was hosting the labor issues talk show on 1300 WERE.

Jeff Kinzbach is out of radio, and has been since 1100 dumped him in 1997 or so. There have always been rumors of him getting back into it--I think he may have tried a thing up in Detroit after 1100, but I may be wrong. If so, he didn't last very long there. Last I heard, he was living out in Richfield and was happy, but bitter about the ending and the state of radio that brought it about.

He also does some commercial voiceover work--he's still the "voice of Marc's" after all these years. God, that's gotta be 20-25 years he's been telling us about the bargains in "AISLE 1" (the BIG OLD crap and stuff aisle in every Marc's).

After WMMS, Jeff & Flash did PM drive "Rock n' Roll Talk Radio" on 3WE for a couple years, and then they moved to AM drive after Chuck Meyer left. It was "AM Cleveland," and Jeff sort of "hosted" while Flash did news. I think--wasn't a big fan of that format; I was a Lanigan guy until recently. Lanigan's kinda slipping a bit as of late--call it Johnny Carson syndrome. And since I graduated from law school, I'm kinda boring now--listen to 1100 in the morning. I need I-71 traffic!

I think I remember reading somewhere that Jeff was out west (Colorado) building houses or something like that.

But, whatever happened to Mr. Leonard. I haven't heard anything about him as of late. Funny bits.

If anyone has any airchecks of Jeff & Flash from back in the "good old days", I'd love to hear them.
I was about 10 years old when they were in their prime. I can barely remember some of the stuff they did like Mr. Leonard, token jokes and blowing stuff up.
Even if you have some airchecks of classic MMS without the Morning Zoo, I'd really like to hear them! Thanks.

Last I heard, Jeff was in Texas. Doing what, I can't recall.

John Rio played "Mr. Leonard". I believe he's still out there doing that bit and others for some markets.

I believe Rio originated the bit on Z100/NYC during the Scott Shannon era. And I believe Shannon coined the Morning Zoo moniker. But don't quote me on that.

Hear classic "Mr. Leonard" bits at Reelradio.com.

I too have heard that Scott Shannon was one of the originators of the "Zoo" morning format. I thought though that he and Cleveland Wheeler(?)created the "Zoo" on a station in Tampa, Fla.."Q" something or other... Could be wrong...thought I read it in either Radio Daze or maybe it was The Cash Cage by Corey Deitz.
BTW, if you haven't read "Cash Cage" yet, I recommend it...not long, about 220 pages, insightful and funny. Has a good message about the case of the almighty dollar in our business. Corey of course, worked in Cleveland at LTF (Corey, Jay and Desirey(sp?).
