GREATER MEDIA/PHILADELPHIA has hired AL WINTERS to do mornings on WJJZ (SMOOTH JAZZ 97.5). He most recently did mornings and was MD at WLVE/MIAMI.

Al Winters

Well, it's good that they got a morning person, finally, and from what i've found, it seems like he's good at his job.

So does anybody know when he starts?
Will he be live or voicetracked?

It looks like WLVE replaced him with the Ramsay Louis Morning show.

I can't get into WJJZ's website right now because it seems like their server's down.

97.5 WTHK was better

We get it already. Bitching about it in every thread WJJZ is mentioned isn't going to bring it back.

Good tagline, Foe Paw! I totally agree with you. I hate people who are still complaining about The Hawk. It died two months ago, for goodness sake! But let's keep this thread on the topic of Al Winters and other JJZ news. I can't believe people are willing to waste space on the server with pointless wishings for the return of the Hawk.

He's just like the baby on the Boston board who is still crying that Radio One Sold WILD-FM to Entercom and it flipped from Urban Contempoary to Hard Rock.

Now why can't that happen here in Philly???? I'm jealous. (not of the cry baby..but of Radio One selling a station and a flip from Urban to Rock)

Anyway staying on topic....I really do like the return of WJJZ (still waiting for that famous jingle to return & the RDS display) but at the same time I really really really miss the Free Beer & Hot Wings show. The Music....as mentioned, Frank and the other Hawk are there to fill the void.

It's interesting that rock formats are to Boston what urban formats are to Philadelphia... (though Boston might be a little worse off right now when you consider that the urban radio stations consist of a CC-owned R/CHR and a Radio One black talk daytimer with the signal of WHAT.)
