More WLW lying

Poor Ken Broo, crying those crocodile tears, that the Bengals may not sell out the Bills game this weekend, ending a 57 game streak of sellouts. What a crock of crap! There have been numerous times when the Bungles haven't sold out the stadium, but the big corporate sponsors have bought up thousands of tickets and given them away to clients and in big last-minute promotions. After all, if the game doesn't air, their spots don't air. It's the kind of math that makes us all hate politicians. But this Bills-Bengals game is such a stinker even the big boys can't make up the slack. Watching/listening to the Bengals this year is like having a root canal without novacaine. And Mikey doesn't care if his team wins or loses. He and his legal team absolutely spanked the legal beagles from Cincinnati and Hamilton County when they negotiated the new stadium deal. Can't pay the lease? You voted this deal in suckers, so you have to live with it!

This stuff is why I'm fast becoming a Browns fan. Since I'm attending school in northeast Ohio I've been watching them and they're showing much more heart and potential than the Bengals lately.

What's weird is that this 'info' that the Bengals 'probably' won't sell out came out about 10 days before the game was actually played. That's much earlier than I can ever recall hearing about a possible non-sellout.

The info smells like planted news to me in order to drum up sales, in order to prevent a non-sellout.

What I'm curious about is: if the game isn't televised locally does that mean that bars in town won't televise it? Can't they purchase a commercial grade All-NFL package and show it?

Any such package - such as the NFL Sunday Ticket - still does not permit carrying the games of the local team.

That seems silly, wouldn't the league want some of the money from those purchases of the packages? When a game gets blacked out doesn't that cost the league money?

I take it these are "clients" of the TV advertisers. Meanwhile, radio advertisers on the games, both local and across the Bengals network (I'm sure one exists), would have to secretly look forward to a TV blackout - means more ears on the radio.

D To The J: You are correct, sorry I wasn't more specific. Bengal radio affiliates are: Cincinnati, WLW, WCKY & WEBN. Talk about colossal overkill! Dayton, WTUE; also other affiliates in Ohio, Indiana, Kentucky and West Virginia. I don't have a clear understanding of why Clear Channel uses the city's only 2 50-kw a.m.'s plus a big signal FM to carry one of the league's worst teams. Maybe someone from CC can explain it. Three stations, triple the rates? As ALF would say
"HA, just kidding! Hey Willie, bring me a sandwich! From Willies, of course!"

I wonder if the Bengals "trimulcast" in Cincinnati has something to do with WLW's Reds contract.

The "lie" is regarding the Bengals selling out 57 games in a row. The BENGALS weren't selling out the stadium, but SPONSORS were buying up thousand of tickets to keep the televised events going and their ads running. As I said, this Bengals-Bills match-up is one of the worst ever, so actual football fans will stay home and watch TV featuring some REAL football involving teams that can actually play PROFESSIONAL football. Perhaps you didn't catch the real point. Can't wait to get that first pick in the next draft! ;D

I understood the difference: the genuine sellout streak ended awhile back, but statistically continued thanks to local sponsors; this weekend, however, much like some TV sets this Sunday afternoon... all bets are off. :D

Let's not forget about Ocho Stinko buying a crapload of tickets for a few games last year or the year before last, so that a game would be a "sellout". Sellout to see one of the most over-rated Wide Receivers in the entire league. If he wasn't so hellbent on having reality TV shows, phone apps, and video games; and actually CONCENTRATED on PLAYING the game.. MAYBE Stinko would be a good receiver. Who am I kidding. The Bengals are a joke. They have 2 Prima Donna Wide Receivers and an 8 year veteran QB that plays like he is a high school QB.

The Clown family needs to go. And they have needed to go for the past 20 years.

Poor Paul Brown has been writhing around in his grave ever since Mikey boy took over the team.

You're right about Louisville and Columbus. Dayton, according to the506.com, will be picking up the Browns, as will Lima (and much of the state OUTSIDE Cincinnati. (I suspect that's not quite right though - and I'll follow-up on this shortly with a post if what I believe is true [that Dayton CANNOT air anything in the 1:00 slot].)

Both Cincinnati and Dayton CAN air the 4:15 New England game.

All markets except home markets always get three games. Home markets can, too, providing a sold-out home game is on the doubleheader network.

But to be clear: Isn't Dayton a "home" market for the Bengals, being only 52 miles from Cincinnati? Maybe I'm confused, but it would seem to me that's the case... if it's a secondary market, consider my confusion resolved...

No. Home markets are the actual market of the team, also known as a primary market. Secondary markets, which for the Bengals are Dayton and Lexington, must show all road games and can show sold-out home games if they wish. Secondary markets also get pulled out of early games for the start of their team in a late road game, too.
