A mostly complete Alan Colmes show and at the end, the cut-over to WFAN.
http://www.sendspace.com/file/frwe4q The Imus Billy-Sol Hargus WFAN intro and the 1050 automated re-direct refers to the calls "WUKQ" which briefly ran on that freq before switching to FM 97.9 as WEVD went to AM 1050. Quite an upheaval that fall.
I had not heard these recording since I made them in Oct '88 and it's interesting to compare people's opinions and predictions for AM in contrast to what has actually come to pass.
At the 33:00 mark on seg 3 file Alan Colmes has a short talk with consultant Mike Harris who was quite bullish on the future of AM radio, it's technological and creative advances which supposedly awaited.
Sadly, much of that optimism has given way to the realities that AM stereo failed to turn the tide and the medium has seen further listener erosion and a slide into right-wing extremism, religion and hucksters.
