Morgan White Jr ? (also?)

Morgan is good, and is the de facto guest host, but there are some things that make me wish Steve would never go on vacation. There are, however, things that I've picked up on:

1. He can't seem to do a show without guests. (Example: Dabney Coleman a few weeks ago. When was Dabney Coleman in a movie or TV show that had any relevance? Or, an expert on kids cereals from the 1960s. That's the kind of guest/topic you want to target?) Steve rarely has guests, and relies on the callers to work with him on the show. Working in this arena, especially on a show like this, guest hosts always felt that they had to get their own guests. I remember one host dreading his first night back on the air after a week or two of vacation. He said that he had to work to get the show "back on the tracks" to get it back to where it was before he left. That always puzzled me. (Why do they rely on guests?) There was an adage that "guests are a crutch," especially when you do a show like Steve's that goes out to 38 states at night, and designed for an open-forum format.

2. It may be me, but I think that he talks down to his audience. It could be the way he comes across.

3. Morgan seems to try to make it his show, but he's not fooling anyone. He's a guest host. That's the vibe/attitude I've picked up on when he fills in.

1. It's not like he's filling in for Howie or Hannity during afternoon drive. In the middle of the night, such guests are perfectly acceptable--- and welcome. It's a refreshing change to be able to listen to an hour or two of talk radio without hearing about how it's (still) Bush's fault, or the nitwits at Occupy, or about how the hacks and greedy politicans are stealing your money.

2. It's just you. Morgan always lets a caller have his or her say, and I have never heard him talk down to them. In addition, he'll also hold callers over during the news or commercial break--- not too many talkhosts do this. Sure, he gets "frustrated" with certain callers during the trivia game at the end of the show, but this is done in good fun and anyone who has listened to him more than once will know it's all part of the act. ;)

3. On several occasions I have heard callers ask him why he doesn't have his own music and bumps when he fills in, and each time he has stressed "this is STEVE'S show. I would never think of doing that." Also, going into and coming out of each break, Morgan ALWAYS ID's the show by its proper name. 8)

By the way, the past couple of times Steve has gone on vacation, Morgan and Bradley have split the shifts between the two of them. This has been within the past few months.

Caught the very end of Morgan's Thursday 'BZ show and he mentioned Ken Meyer had a heart attack, so the hope is he's helped to a strong recovery!

As a trivia host myself, I appreciate a good trivia presentation when done right on the radio. Hell, I even played Kennedy on Mix (and lost) earlier this year.

Morgan excels as a radio presenter because of his uncanny ability to ad-lib. I've really never seen anybody in his league. Go to one of his trivia shows at a bar sometime...he pulls an entire game out of his ass.

I don't think he can ad lib at all. Unless he has a guest he rarely has anything of interest to say. And at the end of the day, Trivia whether it is at dive bar in Brighton Center on a Tuesday night or on a radio station at 3am it is just useless information.

Morgan is a very nice guy and I understand why people like him. On occasion he will book an interesting guest that you wouldn't hear anywhere else but for the most part I find him very boring.
White Jr. and Rich seem to have refined the art of being boring down to a science. LeVeille can show up with no topic and at least keep the show entertaining, but those two -- hoo boy. For the next 3 hours we'll take calls from little old ladies and we'll just tell each other how nice we are. In the 4th hour maybe we'll run a trivia "game" where we'll have semi-sentient callers fail to come up with the right answer even when given a "hint" consisting of: the right answer.

Well the guys from the band Brittanica are on tonight so it might be good. A friend of mine used to be part of their movie nights (J. Rich show) but he fell on hard times and can't make it to the station anymore
but he hopes to resume.

THANK YOU! :D

I didn't want to be the first to say that because I usually get blasted for criticizing any 'BZ related, but I wholeheartedly agree with this post.

I can actually tolerate Morgan though; JR has a very condescending way about him...if you listen to his speech closely. I find that to be a real turn off. I often thought that he might not realize that he is coming off in this manner, but I'm not sure.

And Steve...well, I rarely agree with any of his political/moral values/positions, but he is a true radio guy. He knows how to work with an audience and can keep a show moving along very well. Oops...I meant "Broadcast". ;D

Morgan's back for a few days (either Wed or Thurs 12am I think). Steve hasn't had a vacation for two weeks.

I was thinking who has the best vacation package in the market?
How about eight weeks with holidays and personal days?

how much vacation does Ordway get from WEEI?

People like Ordway, Howie, and Severin get a lot of weeks (though that may change in the future).
In Howie's case he tried to get on Greater Media 5 yrs back and while RKO did get him back, they
had to match the Greater M. salary and benefits offer--he wanted to be off a lot, just like Severin (with them at the time) did. "I'm going to take every teacher's holiday there is", he's said. Many talk hosts get a wk or two around this time of yr anyway.

Andrew Breitbart--in for Dennis Miller (heard a bit of earlier today on WVMT Burl VT)
Mark Simone was in for Hannity last wk
Rush had fill ins like Mark Steyn, Mark Belling, Mark Davis.... :)
Howie had Col Hunt (ugh), Avi Nelson

This past weekend was a big weekend for news:
1. The passing of Whitney Houston
2. The Grammys (Adele sweeping, Paul McCartney's performance, large mice on stage, etc.)
3. Unrest in Afghanistan.

That being said, I was looking forward to tuning into Steve LeVeille late last night on WBZ to hear his take on some of these stories. That wasn't the case. Morgan was filling in. His topics? "Big, Exciting, New Games" with an official from the Massachusetts State Lottery, another interview with an author on Popular Kids Cereals from the 60s and 70s, and of course, trivia.

You would think that in light of some of these things in his pop culture wheelhouse (Whitney and The Grammys) he would have dedicated some segments to them or even brought in some guests on short notice to talk about them. Maybe a reporter in Los Angeles?

Doesn't BZ's prgram director have any say in trying to help out in suggesting guests or maybe arranging some coverage? Jordan Rich blew out his entire lineup Saturday going into Sunday to talk about Whitney Houston's impact. Kudos to him.

I'm also wondering how it's going to go tonight. Bradley Jay is filling in. :-\

I think Morgan said this latest time off was planned.
So if he was told weeks ago rather than the usual same day, Morgan probably lined up these guests and didn't want to say it was off?

how it's going to go tonight.
How about did Whitney drown (didn't make much sense)? Or maybe a heart attack?

Morgan back tonight and sun/mon. It's vacation time again!

T&R making sport of Steve Levellie this morning. Toucher said he thought he looked like Garrison Keillor ... until they crossed paths recently and he found out differently.

I believe Morgan is set to fill in for Steve On Sun. nite/Mon. morning. Please, oh please no more cereal shows - I can't take it anymore! ::)

Tonight he has on the son of Ken Mayer, the guy who used to do what seemed like 45 minutes of reading commercials per hour, occasionally squeezing in a comedy clip and the odd phone call from a listener who was not audible over the air. And they're talking about trying to get him into the radio hall of fame. Down the dial at 680 they have dead air, which is only slightly better than what BZ is offering. How am I supposed to sleep if I don't get my "owner operator report"?
