Morgan White's "Talking Trivia"

I was listening to Morgan on WBZ the last couple of nights and was thinking about his overnight show "Talking Trivia" in the 80s... he had a sidekick named Fractured Flicker. Who was that? Curious... Raccoon Bob, I figure you might know...

Now you're talking...trivia! No, I don't know the Flicker's name and haven't
met him in person but speaking of Talking Trivia:

--I started listening to TT when it was on WMRE 1510, up till the station
signed off in anticipation of a sale (later it moved to WKOX). It was just before they did their
final show there when I did my first call-in. They had a regular caller
named Frank Ochieng who was a big movie/TV buff. Well, I became friends with
Frank after meeting him at one of Morgan's shows (at Pufferbellies in
Newton, IIRC) and now I should remind people that Jordan Rich will
be doing his "every couple of months" movie show THIS Saturday at midnight
on WBZ and as usual, my friend Frank will be there along with Garry and
Marilyn Armstrong. I designed Frank's site: http://www.moviefrank.com

--During the WMRE days the Flicker had his own show, The Fun Show, which I
believe ran Sunday mornings at 7 am ("cartoon moments, TV themes..."

--You can contact Morgan White (though the webmaster doesn't promise a
response necessarily because Morgan is not exactly a frequenter of the Net)
via a form at http://www.morganwhitejr.com

--I still catch Morgan occasionally at local restaurants when he does trivia,
though there have been a couple times when he hasn't shown, probably due to being called in to do a WBZ show! A few weeks back I had a rare Tue. night off and tried to catch him at Spero's in Danvers, but though I spent money on a dinner and hung around...no Morgan. Looked at watch several times, still no
Morgan. I have a hunch he was doing a fill-in on 'BZ that night. Oh well.
Sure indication that Morgan is filling in for Steve Leveille: when they play Steve's theme, Morgan kind of sings along: doo-doo doo-doo doo, doo doo doo

Do you remember Jack Roberts line up on WMRE? I know Tony Pepper was on during the day.

Well, didn't they have Marcia Masters on during the mornings, and also
Bob Katzen weeknights...Doug Stephan...Morgan did a second show, "Lady Luck",
about gambling, on Friday nights.

I attended the farewell party for WMRE at "The Breakfast Club", corner of
Brookline Ave and Boylston St. A bar where they served breakfast even late at night. Katzen was there along with the guy who did a character called "Finkel
Fox"...Morgan was probably there...even Chris Lydon could be seen though I don't
know his connection with 1510. For awhile WMRE 1510 actually carried the AUDIO
portion of Joan Rivers' show on the young Fox network because Ch 25 was still
owned by Pat "I Steer Hurricanes Away From Virginia Beach" Robertson and the
CBN folks didn't want to air it. So the audio was on 1510! And Rivers mentioned
Jack Roberts at one point (we were listening to an 'MRE broadcast of it)
______________

I did the intro to Joan Rivers Boston debut in October of 1986.
It was wedged for an hour between my four hour show. Talked to Joan just as she was going on. Thanked me and Boston for carrying the audio of her show. Hey, Joan was lucky. Pat Robertson could have suggested that someone should "assassinate" her.

I'm doing a show with Morgan tonight so I asked him about this--

Neil Midman is Flicker and they still work together.

And While You're At It - Bring Back Bob Katzen

One of the real talents at that interesting experiment called WMRE as a talk station was Bob Katzen. Funny, inventive, smart and informed. Guess that's why he isn't on radio at this time. But he should be. Bob, Bob, Bob.........Sort of a funnier Bill Maher without the mean edge.

The "Governors" on Jerry Williams' WRKO show were Jerry, Howie Carr,
and Barbara Anderson, and I believe Bob Katzen joined them often.
Maybe he became a "governor" during those days when Howie was at
crosstown rival WHDH?
Bob may have called in during that last-hurrah 'RKO broadcast
shortly before JW died (and I do have that show on tape, or at least
part of it).

I think he
used to run a promo on WMRE using the Batman theme (rocked up a bit)
with "Katzen! Katzen!" dubbed over it. I think he still works for
Beacon Hill Roll Call, or Bugle Call Rag, as Jerry dubbed it.
______________

Oh good, thanks!
I still have a C90 of the final Talking Trivia show on WMRE (drat, I had
a second C90 but that went missing). A few of the regular callers Morgan
had have since gone to Trivia Heaven, including one man who was a Hollywood
scriptwriter IIRC (and I think that man used to show up when Morgan
did shows at the old Final Four down under)
______________
