Morning Mess

How is this show doing in Atlanta? Not looking to have anyone flamed-but just curious to hear thoughts of people in the listening area. Star is such a big known station in the radio world, and I was wondering to know from Atlanta listeners how this show is fairing.

It is not doing very well. I feel for the folks over there. They had a nice place to work (as opposed to most other stations) a great leader and a solid station. Times they are a-changin'!

From what I'm hearing, it's a disaster. Hokey bits, an unlikeable point man, and just a watered down version of Bert.

It's normal to wait at least a year before giving a morning show a true evaluation. But, if that keeps on, I wonder how long before Star gives them the boot?!?

I think it's a two year contract w/an option to discontinue (or continue) after the first year. That's just the scuttlebutt. My friends who work at Star say that the worst part of it all is the attitude of "the Mess." They don't think they should have to attend remotes, give up their free time to mingle with listeners, or involve themselves in the community. Just go to Star's website and look at some of the event photos. Marco looks ticked off in all of them. It's too bad b/c as someone pointed out, they snagged a great gig. Time will tell, I guess.

Ha... wow... that was fun. Check out the photos on Star94.com - Marco looks like [EDIT]!

[EDIT-profanity]

The whole station is a "mess," look for a complete overhaul top to bottom within the next year: Music, Jocks, Everything.

I really didn't want anyone to be flamed, but if what I am hearing about a lack of enthusiasm-then it is warranted. I know people in much smaller markets, making alot less money, who are happy to be out meeting listeners. Not all personalities are good outside of the studio, but it is a necessary evil when you sign the contract. So, you better get good at it fast! Shit, there are worse things in life than shaking peoples' hands, and talking about the community you serve.

Yeah, Marco does look like [EDIT] in most of the pictures. Like he'd rather be anywhere else in the world at that particular moment. But did anyone check out the pics for Meet the Mess at Alon's? Absolutely deserted! Maybe 2 fans and a LOT of empty space.

[EDIT-profanity]

The pictures of Meet the Mess at Lake Lanier Islands show NO ONE. Either they did this remote at an odd time of day or no one wants to "meet the mess". My bet is the latter.

This is a leadership issue. If the Morning Mess has the authority to not do appearances, or they pout and hide on site after 6+- dismal months on the air, it points to a hands off, passive management style - or the PD/GM already know the show is toast and gave up.

Have you ever stood for two hours outside a Metro PCS location with only the store manager and station AE staring at you, sweating bullets in 100-degree heat?

It's a challenge to transition from being on air in a soundproof, and sometimes-isolated room to face to face with your audience. When the PD and Air staff get outside the studios together things can change for the better.

I've heard about a few PD's that have regular jock meetings in a club. Each jock does a stage announcement, comes back to the table and discusses it with the group. Plus, a couple of cold Buds can take the edge off.

High-strung personalities are many times the best ones. Coaching them and helping them grow comes with the territory as a PD - as does a responsibility to thank and appreciate your listeners and clients personally for ALL on air personalities.

I've never taken the time to figure out who's who in the Morning Mess pictures, but I'm assuming from their remote photos that Marco is the fraternity boy poser who looks like he should be selling jeans in Abercrombie & Fitch instead of hosting mornings in Atlanta. The other two look just as happy as they can be. But Marco looks like he thinks he's wasting valuable time at the remote when he could be drinking beer from a keg and hitting on the new batch of 18-year-old girls going through rush. Sure, Marco, there are more important things you could be doing, like pumping iron or building up your dynasty on NCAA College Football '08, but instead you've got to go hang out with listeners at some remote. But look on the bright side -- hardly anybody will show up to bother you! ;D

I think that the Morning Mess is beyond repair. I look for Marco and the others to be replaced VERY soon. Marco made the mistake of not knowing how important the listeners are. Act rude to them and loose them will make ypu toast- much like this show now is. Not feel too bad Marco=-I think that the Varsity Drive-In is hiring Car hops! Marco- Can you say "What you have"?

Wow, those pictures are baaaaad
I love Shannon and Super Fat Mikey even more now though. Marco...smile...ya got a good gig man

I didn't think they were still a factor in morning radio, they are a "mess!"
