I'm guessing that you are either "J" himself, or a good friend of his. Sure, he's a nice guy...but the show is pretty bad. I listened for the first couple of weeks, and found it utterly unlistenable. His bits/games sound like something an untrained weekend guy would come up with.
"If you were a professional wrestler, what would your name be, and what would your signature move be??" That's giving too much credit to the audience. They aren't bright enough to make that bit entertaining. If you HAVE to make a game about wrestling then make it quick and entertaining to even those who might not know anything about the topic.
There are stupid enough wrestling names to play "Wrestler or Porn Star?" Get your caller, announce the prize and have some funny porn music....Lance Storm. Wrester or Porn Star??? Boom! Quick and easy and if executed well, it can be funny.
I've also heard, "Call in to see if you can give the best grunt." These bits are put together like some of the stuff on WUTK. Not to mention the fact that he's loose. On that note, someone should tell all of the jocks on that station not to go from a live break into an obviously recorded bit on Cool Edit. The sound quality is so different that it makes that transition clear as day even to an average listener.
To at least give J a little credit...it's got to be tough running a morning show with no help. I used to listen to the guy on The Point do it, and just cringe because it sounded like he was trying to do too much...with so little help. Hats off to those guys for trying.
To answer your question about who I listen to in the mornings, I usually just bounce around. I really did enjoy Mancow's show...when he was with Q101. After that, the show went downhill. I usually just listen to about 3 or 4 different shows, and I spend my time complaining about how bad they are. Then I come in and talk with others about who made the dumbest comment of the morning. It's usually either Manthony or one of the three stooges from WNML. Then I realize that once again, they've all dooped me into listening. Maybe the ridiculous comments and horrible grammar are a ploy to keep me listening. Sadly, it works.
I've got to get an ipod.
