Morning Radio in HV

As someone who has a considerable ride to work every morning, I've done my fair share of flipping around in the morning and I have to say the choices in morning radio are pretty bad here in the Hudson Valley. Now that I'm carpooling with someone else, I don't always have the luxury of picking the station.

I'm traveling from N.Dutchess to Westchester County line. So my choices for 1 station are limited to PDH or K104 for entire ride. Can't stand the music on K104 (although I don't mind Chris Marino and cast) and can't stand listening to Coop & Tobin. Coop sounds like he's one step from needing an oxygen tank and Tobin sounds like he could care less. I'll sometimes start with BPM, but they don't have traffic which is a big down side for me and once I get around route 55 on Taconic, the reception is pretty bad. And no tears would be shed if the likes of Joe Dailey, Bob Miller and Mark Bolger left the airwaves for good. WHUD's Mike & Casey are so boring it makes me want to cry, but that's usually what I end up listening to the more south I get.

My point to all this is just that morning radio options are pretty lousy here.
 
I agree kinda, Although I think Chris Marino's show is really bad along with his cast of idiots. Cant blame you for not liking Coop and Tobin. Coop needs to jump off of a bridge now so his heart doesnt attack him again. Joe Daily,Bob Miller and Franz and Ethel or whatever his name is at DST all suck. Mike and Kasie are a little boring to listen to. I listen to Jack and Andre on BPM they are really good, but I do agree with the traffic thing. It would benefit me also if they had a traffic report. The only thing that sucks for you is, Jack and Andre fade out at the Dutchess line. They are currently the best morning show in The Hudson Valley right now. and by far the most talented. But you are right,the choices for morning radio are pretty bad. I guess thats a good thing for Jack and Andre, they make one hell of a team.
 
As for one thing, Bob & Sheri rocks!!!! And so does the podcast.

As for WKIP, I hate Quinn & Rose doing a morning show called "The War Room", bring in Don Imus. Don Imus did well on WABC and all of the Citadel outlets throughout the country, can you put Imus to WKIP and WELG? I'm not a big Imus fan, but maybe, the Hudson Valley needs "Imus in the Morning". And please for the love of god, drop "The War Room" on WKIP and put in Don Imus, he will do really well in NYC and the rest of the HV including Poughkeepsie needs to on Imus.
 
WBPM does get weak around Rt 55, though it does come back in somewhat. I usually listen to them until just south of I-84, then flip over to WCBS. I really enjoy Dan Taylor's show :p

With the extremely low pay radio personalities get in the HV, how can one expect their morning shows to be any good?

Secondly, if the local suits only hire those in the HV with semi-known names like the Joe Dailys, Bob Millers and Coopers of the world -- and refuse to take a chance on newer talent, then the HV will remain a stale radio market.

It might be time to clean house at virtually every radio station in the valley and have them try something new -- something not already done in the neighboring markets.
Here are some suggestions:

-Local news would be nice.
-Talented peole with original material would be nice
-The ritual elimination of those free prep services used as critches by non-creative talent and their 19 year old inexperienced producers (read: non-threatening lackeys for the morning "personalities" who would be unable to handle the truth froma real producer)
- A morning personality who can read and understand their news sources if they choose to comment.
- The retirement of some of the old, tired morning hosts that still believe their acts in 1952 or 1978 still work today (I am not counting older hosts who are still creative and actually understand their audiences).
- A good local programmer -- at least one -- in the valley should be somewhat adept in nurturing newer talent to be ready to take over if a morning host or sidekick moves on.

Is this too much to ask in the HV? Possibly, but I know a few people who could handle the job that are or were in the biz now.
 
How about we can move Randy Turner to mornings including the one who is coming out of his retirement is Van Ritshie on WBPM as a team. Maybe they're gonna call it "The Ran-Man and the Van-Man Morning Show".

I was on my way to work this morning on the van and I heard Cooper & Tobin on WPDH, too boring, no rock music to play, it's just talk! They need to get rid of them and put something new to the station. As for "Lite-Fm" on 98.5, Bob & Sheri RULES!!!! I love them all, and so does the podcast. It is way better than Imus on WABC and Opie & Anthony on K-Rock! B&S are the best IMO! Keep it on, and maybe they will succeed in other markets including New York City where the B&S show is still lacking, but there was no room in New York City to put Bob & Sheri on. I listened to just the podcast of Bob & Sheri.

Come on HV, we need to get things straight. Get a better morning talent, bring in the news people to do local and national news, the weather, the traffic, whatever you want. WBPM's "Electric Morning Show" had just news and zero traffic reports.

This is what the morning shows on any HV station needs to fill a hole. Chris Marino, forget it! Jackie & Andre, move the show to WPDH and forget Cooper & Tobin for good! We needs a new morning show! I notice that about a month or two ago, Whoopi Goldberg was no longer doing mornings on radio on many station in the country, but they tried to get "Wake Up with Whoopi" to the Hudson Valley, nothing happened! ZERO!!!!

I guess that all of the HV morning radio shows gives it a big fat "F" in the books!

Sherman Baldwin is doing a good job at WUPE-FM out of Pittsfield, but he probably should be more in a talk format -- and not music. John Krol has done something quite unique with two 25 minute interviews each weekday morning on Good Morning Pittsfield. Give Larry Kratka credit for getting WTBR to a new level of professionalism, along with Krol, Chuck Wright, and others.
Does anyone know anything more about the newsperson at WSBS who replaced Tom Jay.

Krol & I & a few others have done wonders for Berkshire County Rock & Roll Radio.
 
I have to agree with a previous post ...
Local news would be nice during morning drive in
Berkshire County .. Some of the stories are two days old from
the Berkshire-Eagle ( ugh ) ..
What ever happened to the so called "Berkshire News Network" ?
Since Ron Plock and Tom Jay retired -- it's gone !

Risk aversion

Most of them have talent to do lots more than what they do, but what management gives jocks enough free rein to try new ideas and sometimes fail the way business is nowadays?
 
I still like to listen to Warren Lawrence on WKNY Kingston 1490 during my morning commute. Of course, my 'commute' is 3 miles, and takes less than 10 minutes... ;)
