Morning Radio.....The State of it????

As most people travel to work in the morning like myself I find myself tuning in to different morning shows, I cant find one that is entertaining and funny and topical......So now I listen to my cd's on the ride into work...my question is this...Has local radio in this market hit an all time low or is it just a phase that will eventually pass????? What is the state of morning radio???? Are we doomed with poor syndicated shows, and really bad local shows????

You are correct. I too fumble around going from Fly to Oldies, to WGY, to well you get my point. Thank God for the Today show on NBC, then off to the office.

Yes, it has hit an all time low. You can tell that some morning ahows are *desperate* to gdet the ratings. They try to hard to be good. My suggestion is for the PD of each station to go to the West coast for one week. Vegas, LA, etc. Have you heard West coast radio? Damn! It rocks..

I will be in Vegas in 2 weeks for business and I will give my opinion shortly thereafter.

I will say that the stations are not out at all! Promotion is nothing here! Ie: Happy Hour at Jillian's - Not like what it used to be. That will not last long.

Yes, morning radio needs a wake up call...Pun intended!

It sure seems like it, because it's been going on for quite a while now and I don't see anybody making any moves to dao anything about it.

Listen to Ric Mitchell on Star 101.3, he is informative and entertaining. It's the way morning radio use to be....

Ric Mitchell is how radio used to be, but if you can\'t handle that music, and I can\'t, John Gabriel does a decent oldies music based morning show on WTRY. WNYQ does a pretty good Classic Rock based music morning show, and both WEQX and WHRL, have low key Modern Rock based morning shows. Personally, I can\'t handle all of the allegedly entertaining jokes and fake laughter, that permeates the rest of the dial, in the morning.

I agree; Mike 'the enforcer' on WHRL does a good show, as does John Clark on PYX 106. Darwin on WEQX is doing something different but worth tuning in for...although he just doesn't fit in with EQX.

Speaking of EQX they are one of the few stations live on weekends. Depending on what daypart you might get something highly entertaining. Brian (I think) on Saturdays...terrible...terrible....terrible. At least he's followed by Cat/Kat? She is random but good. Another one that doesn't fit the mold of EQX either. She's reliably funny. Jason does an good job with EQXposure. The other Jason, Jason Keller matches him in excellence. Very good local music prorgraming.

Back to weekdays, Lisa on WHRL is the only one in the rock format that is listenable in afternoon drive. She doesn't ramble on and on and she sounds young...great fit for WHRL. Capone is a dick, BUT he does well midays. Takes out your frustrations with your boss for you.

Mornings are dying from boredom. Jason on HRL is good for some minor laughs, JR is the best thing post-Stern that we could ask for. The Wolf...zzzz...oh wait, that's Ellen. Buzz Radio is again zzz. Cold Beer and Hot Wings? What kind of honky white bread is that? EQX Mornings...not even in the game.

I agree...JR is NOT boring. The Wolf is kaput and generally morning radio in the capitol districtis a snooze. WEQX has been a bright spot on the dial for years and proves that there is some talent out there that sits on the rim of the almighty Albany market. If you can, stretch your antenna into the Berkshires and either the 100.1 signal out of North Adams or the 95.9 signal out of Pittsfield. Gal by the name of Joanne is nut plain nuts on Whoopee FM. Intertwines listener phone calls on the air with games and other stuff. They must be edited because they're short but funny. Not your typical morning host but very refreshing. What the hell is she doing in Pittsfield???? Albany needs this woman badly.
