Morning Show Change-ups This Week

2 morning show changes this morning.

"Marino and Manning" 95.5
Any idea what happened with Beth? I like Manning, and I'm not sure what she looks like, but has a sexy voice. I like Marino alright, but still can't adjust to him on country radio. It doesn't help it seems like WSM-FM has everyone of their DJ's reading from a script.

"The Wally Show" 88.7
I'm not sure why they didn't do this as soon as Brandt left. Wally's great, and has a great show...if you like him. Love it or hate it type. I don't think it will make a ratings difference, as a lot of his audience isn't up very early and you can't pickup 88.7 anywhere north or east of Briley parkway (or even less than 5 miles NE from their tower, where I am at the moment).

Speaking of, their signal has really changed in the last couple months. Used to 88.7 was much clearer in Hendersonville than their crappy 94.5 translator, but recently neither is doing very well up there. The 94.5 translator has maybe a 1 mile clear range, and even right next to the tower sounds horrible. I don't know what type of feed they have, but if they're simply rebroadcasting from the 88.7 signal I can see why it's not clear. 88.7 used to travel into Gallatin, although it would be bled over by WVCP in many places. Yesterday when driving up 386 as soon as I hit the Gallatin city limit on the bypass, with essentially LOS to South Nashville, 88.7 just went to static - no fade. All through Gallatin - all static. No bleeding, just lack of signal as if they were using 100 watts or something. Any idea?

morning radio in Nashville may be at its lowest ebb in history. Where are the Houses and the Mayfields of the future? Where is morning radio news? Do you we have to rely on Atlanta, Charlotte and Grand Rapids for our rock morning shows? And the morning country radio personalities may be the lamest ever (the soft rock guys with their gal sidekicks or the Minnesotan "eh the kids and I ate dinner last night" ). Nashville needs a Steve Jobs programmer, somebody who has the guts to take some risks and hire some quality talent instead of same ol same ol. This is Nashville/Music City...the third media capital behind NYC and LA. Step it up. We deserve better.

Good post, spew. As long as we have corporate radio programmers, there will be no future Houses and Mayfields. As for using Steve Jobs as an adjective, well, with all of the industry leaving the US, Jobs may be one of the last of the great American innovators. Don't look for radio to be an innovator any more... today it's a copycat and rubber stamp medium.
