Morning Show Co-Host Traci Gone From KMX

Latest is that Traci has been fired from KMX. One day after the book ended.
Budget cuts was the supposed reason. Not doubting the money crunch...but.....

A very wise radio person told me several months ago she would be gone soon.
The reason being that there can only be ONE female on the 8th floor and she
happens to share an office with KVD and is middays on TVY.

It's with a "y" there Mr. Trombone.

I doubt that she'll be the last but hopefully the only prior to Christmas. Very sad for Traci. Very sad for everyone employed at Magic locations because prospects for revenue will not be getting any better any time soon and facing what will more than likely be the worst 1st quarter in more that 60 years, things don't look too rosy if your paycheck originates in PC. To top it all off, unemployment is rising so jobs will be scarce. The only somewhat good thing about now is that that jobless benefits have been extended.

As I said in Aug (or maybe July), the biggest loss for Magic with the AP exit was the number one biller in the organization, not the on air talent. Magic is following the Clear Channel path down the drain.......

By my count, there are 8 full time DJ's on the 8th floor. By Valentine's, I will not be shocked if the number is half of that but I hope that I am wrong.

Merry Christmas to all and to all a good night.

Remember to be thinking about those New Years resolutions, I'm looking forward to them because then THIS YEARS WILL BE FINISHED!

Who is next???? Is Kidd Kradick a little bit closer to the Dothan airwaves?

I expect you are correct sir. They've not had a money-maker in the last 8 morning shows, since BJ and John way back in '05. Take that back, '06 was probably a positive year living off the stuff that the old KMXers had done previously. With Stephano by himself, this does make 9 morning shows in three years ..... right?

Also, word is that some of those practicing slight of hand are willing to eat some crow in an effort to return to the days of better revenue. Sorry fellows but those birds listen to Great White albums, specifically; "Once Bitten" and also "Twice Shy". :-*

Ahhh Yes I do remember the old days of KMX. I didnt always agree with somethings that went on.

However we always made money. Im sorry for Tracy I know the feeling I'm not in a full-time gig right now myself.

The station I'm at now kinda reminds me of the "old guard" of KMX radio is fun again.

Happy Holidays to everyone

Long time lurker on these boards, just moved to the area with my wife in September. All I can say about 106.7 is that it is not a good radio station at all. There are way too many Hot A/C records on their playlist, the imaging is bland [at best] and the talent is really bad. I've gone back and read some of the earlier threads about it and can only say that you apparently get what you pay for when it comes to the way it sounds right now. When you hire a child to program a 100kW station, you are asking for failure. Apparently Trajic [I like that name by the way] is learning that lesson the hard way right now. Me, I have enough experience in the industry to do top 40 a lot better than what 106.7 is right now and am just going to sit back and wait for this Tyler kid to get his walking papers. My wife makes enough money for the two of us, I would go in there and do a bang up job for pretty cheap.

That is the strangest job application I have ever seen. I don't think disrespecting your
potential employer on a message board is the best tactic.

Good luck!

and MERRY CHRISTMAS Ya'll

Using a ballpark figure of what Tragic pays their employee's is that chunk of change going to make a difference?

I think Kidd Kraddick should have been on the station like 7 or 8 shows ago. But when you have a superstar morning show the rest of your staff have to step up their game or you can end up sounding really bad.

With so little "talent" how do staff your stations? Even with voice tracking you are going to have the same person on 3 stations at the same time...this pass Saturday prime example. (HINT: Use different names of the different stations)

Hey does anyone remember when Tracy started?

Hope you get it critical, get in there and cut those titles back! What do you think, maybe 65 to 100 titles? That's been a proven money-maker in this market every time! ::) It certainly has served Clear Channel and Cumulus very well, don't you think? Glad your circumstances are such that you don't need much of a paycheck, come to think of it, in the spirit of the season why don't you just work for free to help 'em out....

Goodness, a station playing CHR and Hot AC in the same day, that will never work. Next thing you know they'll be trying to mix in some triple a and maybe even a light country ballad. Boy what a disaster that would be, no programmer in America could classify that as anything other than all over the road. Gee, wonder what kind of imagining theme you'd have to use for that, maybe 'The Best Mix'? Naw, that would never work. :-[

Welcome to the boards “critical”, and to Dothan! Glad you’re here.

Stewy-be nice to the newbie. He doesn’t know any better.

Not that I would (ever) defend kmx and Tragic, however, far more impressive individuals, similarly misinformed, have attempted to do exactly what you suggested with the music, and failed miserably… every time. Programmers from Detroit, Chicago, and LA come leapingly to mind over the past few years, and not just on kmx. You see, it’s not about the music, it’s about the BILLING. In Dothan, CHR=0$. The good news is, you can change your nom de plume, and no one will ever know it was you! Can’t disagree with you on the kmx imaging… it’s the best no money can buy, lol. Seriously, they’re a skeleton crew doing the best they can with... nothing. BTW, the music comes out of PC, last I heard. As far as going in there and doing it “for cheap”, be careful what you wish for! Welcome to the other LA.

Merry Christmas to all.

Hey, if you think the "Shrink the playlist and raise the revenue" thing is getting bad in Dothan, you should see what it's like here in Atlanta. EVERY new PD does the same thing, and wonders why the revenue SHRINKS! They wonder why they've been booted out of ole #7. I don't think that any market enjoys shrinking play lists. Now, I'm not advocating 10,000 song lists. But I think you should take a hard look at what ever format you are running, and logically look at how long your listeners are staying with you. I programmed a Country station in another market and research said the average listener was with us for 3 1/2 hours. So the hots rotated every 3 3/4 hours. Recurrents file was HUGE, but we only played 3 an hour. And the oldies were from the 60's through the 80's (this was in the 90's). According to Arbitron, this approach worked. The station was #1 18-49 AND 25-54.

I listened to a "Hit" music station out of Atlanta recently on an hour and a half trip. I heard TWO song repeats in that time! I don't know about you, but that is burnout!

Sssssh JohnAllan, ssssh. They might start listening to you. Wait, it's too late for them to keep from going broke so go right ahead!

Hey Stewy, they didn't listen when I worked over there back in the late 80's! And they SURE don't listen in Atlanta either. Luckily, I have two small market stations in the North Georgia area that DO listen. And they are the revenue leaders in their areas. We've actually been HIRING instead of cutting back! Hmmm. Listening to your audience. Now THAT is a novel concept!!

I second that emotion!

radio today isn't the medium that we grew up with in the 60's. most radio today is listened to in the car to/from work.

if a song is played twice in a two hour period it is most likely to find a completely different audience the second time around.

i consider most of the people here to be astute music consumers. we can listen to 3-10 hours of music a day. most can't either by time constraints or desire.

i also play in a band. in a four hour period it is acceptable to play 3 sets of different playlists and add 2-5 songs while gleaning the best of the first 3 to form a fourth set. that sometimes means we play the same song the 3rd and 4th set. that there may be people who just come in during the late 3rd set but want to hear something we played in the 3rd set during the 4th set is not uncommon.

in the strange daytime playlists where people actually get to request songs (from the approved list of course) something from the 11-noon hour or from the 1-2 hour may well be played during a request lunch. i don't find it odd that a station might squeeze their list to fit a narrow demo.

we here do not fit most demos as far as entertainment choices, do we?

Hey, I don't want to be disagreeable, but.... I'm talking about the Atlanta market. Average morning commute is 2 1/2 hours. All I'm saying is, maybe they should adjust their play lists just a bit. Maybe they would RETAIN an audiance more that 30 minutes!

I agree with you about "us" as a listener. Yes, we will listen for much longer. I average about 9 hours a day (I listen while I work). And I do bounce from station to station in the car. But it's usually the same 4 or 5 stations.
