I hope I’m not ruining part of the fun of this board. Yes...working radio people check this place out, even if they don’t want to admit it. It’s hilarious to read some of the posts in this market and others from people who really have no idea what’s going on in the eye of the hurricane. Here’s my deal. I am now retired from radio. I have been getting up at 3:30 in the morning for nearly 30 years and I am spent, and so is my wife who has been with me since I started on KNHC. I had the greatest time working at The Rock when I was just a punk. Helping that place get to number one was truly a highlight. Working with Steve West and Beau Phillips was the best. If we did Leave It To Beaver these days, we would be put in radio prison. My partner John Langan, still kicking butt in Spokane was brilliant. Crow was a blast to work with. He is just….Baby Crow. What can you say about KXRX. It was a play house for Robin and Maynard and Gary and me. Fisher and I had a good time at The Mountain. He's my pal. The Mountain is a great place to work and the new line up will be a hit. Thanks for all of the nice comments on this board over the years and thanks for slamming me from time to time. Believe me, I can take it. But, I don’t have to anymore. I get to sleep in tomorrow and the day after that and...... Can’t say much about this, but look for my musician son to show up in the near future on places like Letterman and Leno and The Mountain Music Lounge. My daughter is at Barsuk Records and my wife is working at The Northshore School District. I am very proud of them. They are the most important part of my life. If I am proud of one thing it's how my wife and I balanced the madness of morning radio and raising our kids. I have so much stuff to do and I can’t wait to get started...Like weeding and detailing my car and playing with the cat. I applaud the passionate people on this board. Radio isn’t quite as cool as it used to be, but maybe someday, the suits will figure out what most of you already know and turn things around.
All the best radio lovers,
Mike West
