Morning Show Salaries

Eights shows blown out in Seattle and Billboard reports the typical morning show renewal is for 40% less moneybut not in Seattle. This is an average.
In Seattle the TMan's replacements makes about one million less a year so that throws off the average in Sea-Town. Other threads have pointed out that Jackie and Bender andFitz andBJ andTom McCarthy have all signed long-term new deals for good money and based on the ratings they all deserve it.
Entercom from the rumor mill is really stepping up in the morning show arena with Fitz and BJ on multi-year seven figure deals and Sean at The mountain not far behind. The new END show even gets good bank from what I understand but lower six figures only. I was reading a thread on another board that pegged Bob Rivers as the highest paid in Seattle at two million a yearfollowed by Fitz, BJ, Bender, and Ron and Don. Dave , Dori and the talk show hosts must be in the same league but I have never seen those numbers posted. Rush is the highest paid talent on air here but only a half a million comes out of Seattle. I am sure the talk show hosts make even better bank. Lots of others like kentalan, ichabod, Brooke and Monti and the am news shows make okay money but not like the top talent which is maybe why they keep their jobs. My point. Seattle is still a pretty good place for morning talent to make money if you have the drive. The loss of eight shows in this market makes it easier for those who are left and many are seeing the rewards. Congratulations to J/B, Fitz, BJ and McCarthy on new deals based on good ratings. Get the number, you make the number!

I believe I can shed some light in this area both in this market and others where I have worked. Several shows are making more money. Ryan Seacrest at KISS in LA signed a 38 million dollar.deal that includes a piece of his syndicated show. A nice increase from 10 million a year, in my humble view. The parameter for paying a morning show good money fits in three categories:
1. Do they have greater ratings than the station as a whole
2. Does their show bring in 40% of station revenue
3. If the show leaves would the loss in revenue be equal to double their salary. (50% ROI)

I find it hard to believe that outside of Bob Rivers any single Seattle talent makes over one million a year. In my humble view Jackie and Bender, Fitz and Tom McCarthy do not achieve the above parameters especially number 3. While okay rated shows they are not, in my humble opinion, key the the success and billing of KISS, WOLF and KRWM. The Seattle talk show hosts you mention do not rank in the top ten in ratings so I truly doubt they make a million a year, in my humble view.

Take it from someone who is closely familiar with morning show salaries, outside of Bob Rivers, no one in Seattle comes near his salary now that t-man is gone. And you are completely way off when it comes to some of the morning personalities at Entercom. If you think ppl like Red are making 6 figures, you are smoking crack. I would be completely shocked if she makes over 50,000 a year. Just to give you an example, when DJ No Name got the morning gig at the End, he signed a contract for 38k a year. Granted that was 5-6 years ago but it came at a time when companies were actually spending money and not cutting back as much as they are now. Outside of a few established personalities, morning show salaries are alot lower than you think.

So does Ichabod makes the same as Rivers, if not less...??

I recall Gary Lockwood 'was' the highest paid ever in Seattle at KJR - 'once'...

Now this is a FUNNNNYYYYYY thread cowboys. Rivers: yes Big $$$ same for Fitz and same for BJ. 8)
Jackie and Bender big money really ;)
McCarthy a big million dollar deal :D
Ron and Don ???
I do agree the low rent cowboys are Ichabod, Kent and Alan, Mvoin and the am shows. AM radio is all about news or syndicated cow pie talk 8)

Seacrest is overpaid  Guess that makes him the highest paid in Seattle along with RUSHBO. What does that say about local talent ???

Nothing, since the Seattle portion of those syndicated guys is only a small fraction of what a local morning show costs. Fun with math.

I could be wrong, but I thought Seacrest's 38 million was for 3 years on American Idol.
I'm not sure how much his CC deal was including syndication. His previous del with KIIS FM
in LA was around 3 million a year. He signed that in 2005 I think.

I find it funny that there are those here which even make the attempt to compare Dick Clark's protégé’ Ryan Seacrest with some recent Seattle morning personality like Fitz. Thanks for the laugh.

I still find it odd that there really is no morning show here with Stern like numbers....but then again, does that exist anywhere anymore? I try to listen in the AM when I am in Seattle and honestly, it all sounds like the same generic morning zoo crap with little originality. I hope no one in this town is making anywhere near seven figures, because talent wise, there is no million dollar man (or woman) here. And Seacrest is about the MOST overpaid person in broadcasting EVER. His radio career is only huge because of Idol. His afternoon show in LA (pre-Idol) sucked and his morning show isn't much better. If Ryan made a bad decision instead of his co-host after season one, we'd probably be listening to "Dunkleman in the Morning"...and loving it. BOOOO to Seattle PD's for not trying to be the best in the mornings.
