Mornings Changin

Some posts and market rumors got this cowboy curious. Seems contracts for a lot of morning talent in Seattle will be up in 18 months including Rivers, K@A, Ichabod, Jackie and Bender, Fitz and BJ SHea. I believe T-Man just re-signed a long-term deal for multiple markets. So who stays, goes, retires and what happens to their stations? This radio dudes take:

Rivers: KZok will still be fine. No real challenge in the format, probably will drop a bit in numbers but still goes strong. Rivers is rumored to be retiring.
Ichabod: This could hurt KMPS's upper end. Fitz would now be the established player and it could mean trouble for KMPS. Ichabod also rumored to be retiring.
Fitz: Much turmoil at the WOLF. His numbers are strong and this could be a huge boost for KMPS if Fitz moves to another market. Rumors are he is getting offers.
K@A: STAR is these guys. Rumor is they are getting offers or may retire. Not sure what role Kent play as PD, or if others call the music shots. Could hurt STAR big time and open the door for KISS to go to Fresh or KRWM to get more hip.
BJShea: Establishing himself big time. Rumor is major markets are looking at him as one of the few Rock shows that held on to Stern's numbers. He will probably syndicate on multiple stations including kISW.
Jackie and Bender: Probably okay if they move on, since they never really caught on in Seattle. A new market might help them and help KISS. A win-win. Portland could be the place for em. The dude from KLSY is doin great at the AC, after getting killed in Seattle. Maybe J@B can do the same at the CHR in PDX or Spokane. Lots of places for em to go.

All just fun ole speculation. SOme key talent in town could step up including the afternoon shows on KUBE, STAR and even the END that are really comin on.

here's a random thought. What happens if BJ Shea goes to KZOK, Fitz goes to KMPS and J@B go to STAR?? KZOK takes out their competition in mornings as Rivers retires and go to number one. For KMPS Ichabod retires and Fitz brings the younger crowd to KMPS. For STAR, K@A retire and J@B get a new start and a chance to bring a younger crowd to STAR? KZOK, KMPS and STAR win.

OR

Rivers goes to KISW, BJ syndicates, Ichabod does to WOLF to bring the older crowd and Fitz syndicates, K@A go to KISS bringing in the older demos and J@B head to Spokano or Portland. KISW, WOLF and KISS win.

Or

Rivers goes to STAR, K@A to KMPS, J@B to WOLF, IChabod to KISW, BJ Shea to KRwm. Burhaaahaahaaa now that I would listen to bruhaaahaahaaa.

Option one makes no sense, option two actually makes sense, but won't happen. Option three, now that is funny!

The "dude" from KLSY is Bruce Murdock, and only had about a 28 year run in Seattle. Geesh!

Gotta love the newbies into town.

Probably still working on how to pronounce Issaquah and Puyallup.

Well as far as Rivers retiring I hardly think so he has worked hard and is a good fit right where he is at as long as they can afford to keep him happy. BJ Shea is not going anyplace, look at KISW when he arrived and where they are now in the ratings, they need him, they want him, and although he may syndicate his show he isn't going to be stepping away from a very very loyal listener base here in Seattle.

Murdoch had a long run in Seattle and in 2000 had the number one AC show in town, before KRWM and KPLZ surpassed KLSY in the AC arena. Dollar figures are always suspect. Have heard Rivers is highest paid with rumored dollars as high as 2.5 million a year and as low as 750,000. My guess is it is somewhere in the middle. T-Man is in the same ballpark. Not sure about the rest. I assume they do just fine.
