Mornings on B.

It isn't Bernie anymore. Another Emmis employee now a prisoner in the Ivory Emmis tower.

Did they get rid of the syndicated guy who pushed Bernie out?

And not very well, either. But that's just my opinion.

Oh, and why I must ask?

I've yet to hear Bernie do anything not very well...but to be fair, I'm not a B listener, so I base that statement on past performance.

I'm sure Bernie's a great guy, but I am critiquing his talent here. So don't take it too personally.

Same ol' stuff. I have yet to hear him say anything fun or creative or new. Time, temp, title, artist and some sort of lame old joke about the song. Intro traffic....blah blah blah..."Howard Jones with No One Is To Blame on B105.7...except we can blame (insert traffic reporters name here)..." That's original. Even when the song came out in 1986, that was a lame comment. Come on. Come up with something clever and new. Not to pick on Bernie, but this is what radio is anymore. There's nothing new, creative or fun on anymore.

It reminds me of the all the old guys on WTPI. Cooper - same schtick - different day. But, then I guess I expect people to do some prep for their shows.

B's best personality is Kurt on the weekends. He should be doing afternoons.

Also, I hear Fritz doing morning breaks like it's his show. That's why I asked about that.

Remember that their music is the same WENS playlist with some new songs added. No one to blame is a lame song. Imagine playing off the song since 1986. This was and is a transition. Lame as it is to us the listener may not see it that way. They may question the rotten song.... Are you saying this is a crutch?

Fritz is great. Every jock has a crutch. What is it that Fritz does that makes him unique as compared to Bernie? Give a few examples. Like, "I heard him talk about the man with most elastic skin in the Bible, tied his A## to a tree and walked 40 miles" (Ron Jordan RIP)

B has been and continues to be background, If they called it WENS this would be the original concept of the format. We let our music do the talking. It was not designed to be personality. It seems this is what B is. Is it possible that things happen on the weekend as the office crowd isn't in the office?

I worked with Bernie and he's a jerk. Just kidding. It's been 20 years since I worked with him. Don't email him, he is not my friend on facebook. Jerk. Just kidding. I speak with his uncle from time to time and stalk him on the radio. (Not in the legal definition of harassment stalking but an explanation just makes this worse, right?)

Bernie is blind. We used to change his braille labels, and otherwise bother him. It was useless because he worked around it and didn't complain. It was really no fun and he was such a nice guy. Listening to B I hear the positive voice seemingly untouched by time. When i hear this I just want to know and touch where he is off the mark. I don't hear it.

You're too close to the situation, Chief. You know the guy too well to hear the things I speak of. And it's not just him. I'm not just picking on him specifically. He just happens to be the one I hear. But this is the problem across the dial.

The song is fine. I said nothing bad about the song. I enjoy listening to it. But for the hundredth time in 25 years to hear someone do the same stale joke about the title - well. I would expect a personality with that many years of experience to be able to come up with something a little more clever - or not at all. Do some research, find out something about the song or artist that the typical listener may not know. That is how you move from the background to the foreground.

I think it's laziness. These people have been on the air for so long, they forgot what it's like to be hungry and to be fresh.

Fritz is not the one I was talking about. I don't understand your comments about him. It's Kurt that is their best talent. He is clear, concise and tells me what I need to know. No hokiness. And he has a pleasant sounding voice.

I was merely saying that I am confused as to who is doing mornings at B. Is it John Tesh or Fritz Moser? I think it is both.

His mere presence on-the-air is based past performance. It's been the exact same thing for 25+ years. Some call that "steady" but most call it "stale."

Being blind isn't his problem, being bland is.

People on the air on a format designed to be rather bland will do what's needed to match the format. Not sure how much different the people on Radio Now or i-94 (if they still have any) are. They do have the advantage of playing off new songs on a weekly basis though. That's the difference between a passive and an active format.
