Mornings on the Bull

This morning I was listening to Kicks, and I heard Cadillac say that pretty soon his and Dallas's show will be the only live and local country morning show on Atlanta radio,I wonder if he knows something we don't know?

CC may be planning to throw on Bobby Bones on Bull. While not live & local, Bobby & his crew do a GREAT show. Content-wise it would be an improvement over Caffeinated Radio. Jason & Kristen come across as unprepared...just going thru the motions of morning radio. Nothing on their show ever surprises me as a listener.

I know Bobby Bones has taken over mornings on most CC stations, while he may do a good job I still prefer live and local. Kristen is ok,but Jason needs to go. maybe they will move Kristen to another day part.

I am not a Jason fan either, a bit insincere. I have always liked Kristen she seems genuine and I know she will find something great if a change is in the works. I saw something about part 2 of Nash being rolled out, but that is Cumulus, so I guess we will see...I hope the Bull isn't flipping, I do listen to them some.

Kristen has been around this market for awhile, she has a lot of friends in this market, when she was let go from Kicks Steve and Vicki called her.

I have been hearing Bobby Bones and his crew on WSIX Nashville, on Sirius XM. It is
habit forming. They put on a great program, with lots of subtle humor, and nothing
that you would call "nasty" humor. I actually called the PD for the Big 98 WSIX
telling him that the Bobby Bones show is excellent....and I have wondered why CC has
not put this package on the air here in Atlanta. Not sure who or what is on the Bull right
now, but if they get replaced with Bobby Bones, Atlanta radio will be much improved.
I have been in the radio business for many years, and this program has to rate at the
very top. The way the crew goes about their program is very interesting. If you have not
heard it, and you have a smart phone, you can get it on the iHeart app. They play mostly
the top 10 country songs, and their pace and the general sound is top of the line. CC will
do Atlanta radio a big favor if Bobby Bones is on the air here. Bobby, Amy, Lampshade and Ray:
We are waiting to hear you on the air in the Big A !!

If this did happen and the rest of the day on The Bull stayed the same, they would have no live and local shift. I don't recall a situation with Clear Channel in a major market where a full-power FM did not have at least one live shift, the purpose being to have someone for appearances. I'm sure Bobby Bones would come to the market, but with all his other stations, that would be rare. I wonder if The Bull would have someone live in afternoon drive if Bones came to mornings.

If Bobby Bones takes out the last live local shift on 94.9 it will not be the first time 94.9 was a "closet" station. IIRC when WGST and WPCH where in the Parr Road studios "Peach" was automated.

I wasn't in Atlanta in those days, and perhaps they were automated at the very start. But of course beautiful music is a totally different format; people did not listen for personalities.

I do know that fairly early on, Steve Goss was live on the station. When he gave his acceptance speech at the Georgia Radio Hall of Fame, he mentioned that Schulke (the creator of the format and provider of the music) was the only format on which dead air was actually an ingredient in the format. He said after the musical selection ended, he was told to count to 3 before talking. And the same when coming out of commercials.

I need to make a correction. I wrote that Steve Goss spoke about the early days of Peach 94.9 in his acceptance speech at the Georgia Radio Hall of Fame. It actually was his acceptance speech at the A.I.R. Awards. I was just reminded that he's a nominee for a Career Achievement Award at the GRHOF this year.
