Mornings with Mendte at WWIQ!

So two hosts whose shows failed in Philly, one who is so radioactive now that you can't sell ad time even adjacent to his time slot, and one host previously driven out of town on a rail for what he did to his co-host.

Sounds like a real winning lineup. This is a bigger mistake for Merlin than "FM News" was in New York.

Still wondering why the "imperfect genius" decided to flush out the old cume with REM. Seems to me the old listeners would welcome the conservative talk. That being said, I'm sure it will still do better than some of their other properties, but no better in this market than the AM did.

Their branding is in place. In music radio, you are AC, Hot AC, Soft AC, CHR, etc. In talk, you are right wing talk, progressive talk, etc.

Just saying you are "live and local" does not help in a market like Philly. The issue is what kind of talk are you. WWIQ is branded. WPHT is floundering. That is bad.

Interesting they'd have Larry Mendte on this station considering his past problems on TV with the whole Alicia Lane incident. Don't know much about Gardner either.

I am curious as to what they do with the station. I am not a fan of Hannity or any of the other conservo-talkers. I would like to see some local and South Jersey talk on 106.9 since I can hear it in Atlantic County. And since WKXW does not cater to South Jersey anymore it would be great if you included more local traffic for South Jersey. KYW doesn't even care IMHO about Jersey, so that would be a plus. Also, when is this all Hannity festival going to end? As the new station in town I wish them luck.

My guess is the Monday after Rush's contract with 1210 ends.

And you put on what liberal talk? This has a chance of succeeding because it's on FM. Conservative talk can work in Philly. With this being an election year, it's a great time to be launching this.

I would have put on all news, as was commonly expected.

Or, if you don't want to go down that road, there ARE gaps in music programming that could have been filled.

Also, Merlin generally targets women with their programming. Conservative talk is a big turn-off for many women. If you want talk lifestyle talk has a place. (Although probably more likely on AM.)

Mendte? A detestable human being who should be in prison. I will NEVER listen to that station. Ever.

For reading someone's email? I don't think so. You need to chill. Hopefully you don't hold any position within our already wretched government, unless of course you're that guy who scrapes up the road kill.

Indeed, this will be a station with largely male listeners if the lineup is as proposed here.

<shrugs> I know I am biased given my own personal dislike for the program content for Hannity et al., but this venture seems to be badly programmed from the get-go.

And having Mr. Mendte as a key personality is no plus, given the scummy stuff he pulled off vs. Alycia Lane years ago.

Oh well...over-the-air radio makes seems to make less sense every day, given the continuing explosion in smartphone usage, wifi networks, and office Internet access.

The aspect I haven't heard a thing about for WWIQ is its traffic reporting cadence -- something more frequent than every 10 minutes might steal some drivetime listeners from KYW, and traffic / weather reporting seems to me to be the only real benefit provided by broadcast radio nowadays vs. netcast radio...

This just made my day!!!!!!!

It's about time Glenn and Sean were back on in Philly, and I am SO FRAKKIN' HAPPY that Rush is leaving that sinking ship known as WPHT. Michael Smerconish ruined that station.

Today is a glorious day in the Philly area! If they could add Mark levin at 6:00, this line up would be truly ideal.

Also, I'd love to see them steal Stigall from WPHT for morning drive. Mendte does nothing for me, and Stigall is the one good thing WPHT has done these past few years.

Are you joking? Women love conservative talk!

Oh yeah...I can see twentysomething women flocking to hear radio like this...http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q1oOjKQflN0 ::)

Merlin failed to make a dent in Chicago or NYC with all news, so they are taking the cheap way out and launching a syndie talk station that will be like 1210...but with better fidelity and multipath instead of power line noise.

The station won't be a failure, but I doubt it will be a NJ 101.5 success. Just my .02

Uh, he committed the violation hundreds of times! Further, based on what he read he leaked information in order to damage her. He is a scum bag pure and simple. How anyone can think otherwise is beyond me.

I guess you are just not that intelligent.

I'm definitely not a fan of Mendte. I don;t know who Gardner is. Hopefully they will be a full service show with traffic (good traffic and not 2 roads I don't care about) and weather that also talks about South Jersey. That might get me to listen.

I listen to a lot od conservative talk radio, it sounds to me like a good deal of the callers (in some cases I'd say a majority) are women.
