Morristown Ratings

Even though 12+ don't mean much, lets discuss just for fun.

1. WLTW
Not surprised about that. Obviously a popular "at work" station.

2. WMTR
Great showing for an AM music station. Hats off to them.

3. WABC

4. WPLJ
Obviously this type of station does much better in the suburbs. 12+ wise, it did well, much better than the city numbers.

5. Z100 (WHTZ)
6. WDHA
7. WAXQ
8. WXRK
9. WFAN
10. WOR

WNEW is in 13th and WCBS FM dropped significantly. WCBS FM is in 16th. They went from nearly a 5 down to below a 2. Ouch.

Yes indeed, a Fantastic Book for the "Locals" in the Morristown Book. It's almost a "given" that Lite-FM would be at the top of the heap and rightfully so. Aside from that it looks like the folks at Greater Media have some celebrating of their own to do. People can't seem to conjure the concept that Music on AM CAN work if executed properly and of course you are the ONLY player in town. The BEST move WMTR could have made was adding tunes from 66-69 mid-way through 2005 following the demise of...well you know. They seem to have built a loyal following and have managed to find the right balance of 50's and 60's music. Now if they would aonly ditch the Knicks and Rangers games I would be THRILLED and I imagine others would to. On the flip side I realize that it is a quick revenue-generator.

And for sister-station WDHA they too had a very good book considering that there is no "Official PD" running the shop. This is a very crucial period for WDHA IMHO with the whole departure of Howard and the loss of the K-Rock music, weekdays atleast. Being in the listening area of both stations (WDHA and WMTR) I do listen to them quite a bit and have noticed some really DEEP cuts at WDHA and quite frankly I really like it...it's that "Oh WOW" factor that is missing from most of radio today. They only gripe I have with WDHA is that "thing" they call a morning show...I would hands-down much rather listen to DLR on Free-FM or even Imus!

Seeing WABC coming in 3rd in the Morristown Book doesn't even surprise me. They have some BIG names and also a loyal-following and not to mention that "Flame thrower clear-channel" signal. I would be curious as to what kind of numbers that their Saturday Night Oldies Show pulls in...that would be interesting. As for sister, WPLJ, as YOU (radiolover78) said they ALWAYS do much better in the 'burbs than in the city. And while not a rating s torch themselves, they DO Bill incredibly well.

All I can say for CBS Radio is Poor "Jack" even though they seem to have hit the abyss and one can only think UP is the only way to go. WNEW does surprise me to some extent. They seemed to be catching on but I guess the Christmas Music on Lite-FM really put the screws to them. I would LOVE to see CBS Radio pull a "Sunny" type format in and go head to head with Lite or something along the lines of "The Breeze" with their incredible music library. I think it could work in NYC.

That's my $20 worth...comments anyone!?

I was thinking the same thing. WMTR isn't a fluke. Given that, if there was some way to shoehorn in a class A signal in the Morris County area to simulcast MTR on, they might do even better. The odds of that aren't too good though, I suspect. Someone would have done that already.

Mostly because it's the only AC station you can pick up with a clean signal in the Morristown area. 98.3 fights between WMGQ and WKJY, 100.7 fights between WHUD and WLEV, and 102.3 WSUS and 107.9 WEBE are weak and staticy even on a good car radio.

However, 94.3 "The Point" (WJLK-FM) comes in surprisingly well in this area, because of the high elevation as compared to the shoreline. It's funny to listen to 94.3 constantly refer to "Monmouth and Ocean Counties" when you're getting a perfectly clear signal from them all the way in Morris County.

Again, WPLJ has a strong signal advantage in the Morristown area. Lite FM essentially has no direct AC competition in this area, so WPLJ becomes the AC competition even though its music mix is more edgy than WLTW's.

Right.

I'm surprised too. I guess WKXP from Kingston, NY doesn't mix in. WKXP's signal is pretty weak anyway.

Of course, most of the New York City signals are strong in Morristown. I know that. But, the main point is, WPLJ is simply the type of station that would do better in the burbs.
