Most Aggravating/Senseless Programming Interruption

I remember reading a couple years ago that WGNO-New Orleans squeezed the Oscar telecast down to do a split screen to announce a severe thunderstorm......in Memphis, TN.

Something worse than this happened in Cincinnati a few years ago. In Cincinnati, 'Cops' is HUGELY popular. But Channel 19 completely cut off the first 10 minutes of an episode to show the weatherman talking a thunderstorm...IN ILLINOIS!!!Around the same time, Channel 19 cut out all the audio of the SEASON PREMIERE of 'The Simpsons' to play an unintelligible robot voice announcing a thunderstorm watch that wasn't anywhere near Cincinnati. This robot voice lasted the entire duration of the show - except the commercials, of course. If the commercials don't get full clearance, O the world will end, I guess.

Last year WCBS pre-empted the last 15 minutes of The Price is Right with a LA style car chase. I of course was rather peeved, as I am rarely home to watch the show and you loose the pay-off for something that is not even real news.

I wonder if the producers and weathherman knew that the storm had nothing to do with Cincinnati. Or maybe it came from another station in the Raycom chain, and fed to WXIX by mistake.

Did the voice continue into the next program? Did WXIX even acknowledge audio trouble?Probably another explanation could be that the bulletin came from Fox and fed on another audio feed (similar to those SAP feeds), but fed into "The Simpsons" by mistake, instead of the regular audio.

It was the station's own local weatherman, not an out-of-town weatherman. I believe it was Rich Apuzzo.

I don't know if it continued, but I know it was also going on during the season premiere of 'King Of The Hill' that was on right before it. I don't know if WXIX ever acknowledged audio trouble, but I'm sure they got a ton of complaints.

I'd have to say KFXK in the late 90's when a transmitter power meltdown caused them to be off the air for a few days. When they finally got back on-air, their GM at the time apologized for the problems and KFXK aired the programs affected by the meltdown aired that weekend.And then KFXK screwed up and aired a few minutes of a hardcore porno flick in place of the Simpsons one night.....I recall it made the news that week. (Part of me theorizes this was caused by some idiot at KFXK master control switching channels on the satellite by accident, since at the time a few porno channels were carried on the same satellite, Telstar 402, that carried Fox network programming feeds at the time.)I'd also say an aggravating programming interruption happened this week when KETK brought their brand DTV signal to full power....(read the thread on the problem in the Texas TV section of this forum)...problems apparently knocked their DTV and analog OTA signals off air from Wednesday morning until early Thursday morning.As for Houston, anytime any of the stations (KTRK is the only station I know to do this) airs a car chase, that's utterly aggravating.

Then there was CBS's interuption of the last several minutes of one of the CSI shows to announce the death of yassir arafat(sp) As I recall it was not too much longer utnil the affiliates would have been in to the local news maybe just a few minutes. I do remember them appologizing perfusley and re airing the episode a few days later. I also remember The NFL Sunday broadcasts being interupted several times during President Regans appearence in Island for a summit for no perticluar reason. One really annoying interuption was during the Bears game that afternoon they cut away right in the middle of a long touchdown run. The run ended up being called back on a penalty but still. That was very annoying. I do remember the tv networks interupting during both the first and second games all day long and it was very irritateing especailly since they were not really reporting on anything important.

I recall last August when a few ABC viewers were a little miffed on the ABC message boards over ABC's interruption of Extreme Makeover: Home Edition to announce the death of Peter Jennings......this was mainly on the west coast.With Jennings as one of my favorite newsmen of all time, had this happened on the East Coast (the East coast was well into local programming at about 11:30 when Charles Gibson broke the news), I wouldn't have been upset. I replied on the boards by saying that he was one of ABC's most well known personalities and of great significance to the network.
