Most:----Everybody who was on KQV from it's inception as TOP 40 until 1967 when I moved away. Plus Porky, Terry Lee, Doug Hoerth( music only), Clark Race, and Terry McGovern
Least favorite: Jim Quinn after he became a right-wing noodnik and of course Jeff Christie. Although he sounded like the perfect TOP 40 DJ with the perfect voice for the job, he got this looney mashugena idea he could be a political pundit----but simply became a troll and a dangerous highway hazard. Then he began to spout that riots would be good. Strange little man. He used to have long hair and a walrus mustache----but he was not married to Yoko.
It seems to me your least favorites are not based on their radio talent, but rather your own political beliefs. You're entitled to your political beliefs, but wouldn't the fact Jeff Christie went on to be radio's all-time contemporary personality show he has at least a little bit of talent?
I also am surprised to hear so many people list talk show hosts. Wasn't this supposed to be about DJs?
But I suppose that's nitpicking.
Some of the best DJs, in my opinion, in Pittsburgh are found at WISH 99.7. Ron Antill, Sara Lockard, Dan Dunlap and Cris Winter all have perfect voices, are beyond smooth, and do all the little things a DJ is supposed to do. Their enthusiasm for their work is great. I absolutely hate the music they play and think their respective talents are held back a bit by the format of the station, but even with that- they succeed.
I am not as familiar with the guys on the weekends and overnights, primarily because I haven't listened to the station during that time in a long, long time and I don't know if the guys who I was familiar with are still there.
I'm usually a guy who says its the music is what makes the station. I still believe that.
But the recent success of WISH 99.7 has to be attributed at least somewhat to the jocks.
