Most Annoying Christmas Songs

My dad told me "They have so many tricks they use in the recording studio to make these singers sound so much better than they really are." And that was 54 years ago.

And that statement covers virtually all modern pop vocalists including the ones, like rap, that are not musicians at all.

Some time in the '90s, Roger Whittaker decided that what "The 12 Days of Christmas" really needed was not only his dulcet voice, but also cheesy Yamaha DX-7 synthesizers and to be rushed through at a breakneck pace, finishing the song a full minute quicker than most other versions of it!

I'm having a similar experience right now with "The Holly and the Ivy". How does he sound so good and the instruments are such a mess?

I saw what was playing before I actually had to listen. I do NOT want to hear Aaron Shust, a CCM singer. It has been my experience most of the male CCM singers have this annoying way of singing.

Barry Gordon 'Nuttin for Christmas' - I'll add this one because it airs all the time at the place I work at. The only good thing about Barry Gordon is that he went to much bigger places after that record. Like becoming president of the SAG! And many TV roles, including voiceovers on Ninja Turtles and a role as Archie's lawyer on 28 episodes of Archie Bunker's Place. But good LORD is this song annoying!

I can see how it would be. I kind of like it.

I've heard "The Angel in the Christmas Play" by Spike Jones several times on America's Best Music. That should probably be on the list but I also sort of like that one.

And America's Best Music played "When Love Came Down" by Point of Grace. It's a shame. Their harmonies sound so pretty when the song starts but it doesn't continue to sound good.

Stan Freberg did the best version of Nuttin' for Christmas.

George Rock's "little kid" voice was something that people loved or hated. He was Jones' lead trumpet player, BTW.

Jones' Christmas album, called Spike Jones Presents a Xmas Spectacular on the original 1956 LP, and It's a Spike Jones Christmas on the late 1980s CD, has always been my favorite Christmas album. But it's extremely toned down compared to his earlier "crazy" music of the 1940s and early '50s (Der Furher's Face and Cocktails for Two, for example). Those who know his earlier music might find it disappointing in a way, but I have a feeling that he toned it down because of changing musical tastes during that era.

This was WLTE/Minneapolis' last song before flipping to Country music as KMNB. No wonder their ratings were not the best in the last few years of the AC format.

I just reviewed my posts in this thread and I'm 99 percent positive I never wrote that about Grandma. Not sure who you meant to quote. In fact, I called it "something of a classic." I'd much rather the cold weather songs, Mariah and the Carpenters fall off the sleigh for good, but I understand that I am neither the right age or gender for the format.

Whoops! The person I meant to quote was oldies76.

I agree about Mariah, but how can anyone not like Karen's angelic voice? Now her singing partners on "Sleigh Ride" are another matter. This one guy doesn't have much of a voice. The other one may be Richard and I think he can sing.

Never made it to him, but iHeart showed his name. What I heard was this eerie mess and a weird female voice, both of which sounded more like the Winter Solstice.

It's not her voice, it's the material. I love Carpenters singles like "Superstar", "For All We Know", "Top Of The World", etc. I find their most-played Christmas singles way too sleepy.

The Waitresses, Christmas Rapping. Right up there with Kars For Kids, when it comes to quickly reaching for the volume control.

That's the way I like Christmas music.

I also like the energetic songs by Andy Williams and Ray Conniff.

"Santa Baby"....Any version. It sounds porno to me..I'm surprised it gets airplay.....Was it ever banned from the airwaves in the past....

BTW.............Merry Christmas to all............

Never was a fan of her whining and crying but I do enjoy her Christmas album...
