Most common & overused names in Indiana radio?

Okay, from Evansville to South Bend, I thought it would be fun to compile a list of the most common and possibly overused stage names in Indiana radio. Maybe it's just me, but it seems like no matter where I go, I hear a different combination of the same names.

It can be first or last names.

For example... Tyler, Hunter, Cruise, Zack, Summer

Makes me wonder, can't anyone be original anymore?!

This is a thread that shows up on radio boards with regularity. Toward what end does someone need to be original? The goal isn't originality, it's memorability. "Original anymore" implies that there was a time when it was different. In the era of radio that so many appeal to as the gold standard, stations were owned by groups like Bartell, Westinghouse, etc. Personalities were assigned names by the company and frequently the names were the same from market to market. It saved money on jingle and stager production. I.e. there was more than one Johnny Dark, Charlie King, Bob James, etc. In Chicago, the afternoon drive jock on WLUP is Zack Tyler. It didn't hurt his rise to market #3.

The name is just a touchstone to the jock, really. It's what he or she does that's important.

Besides, I use my real name, and there are TONS of Mike Turners in the United States.

I've only heard of the Barney Pip name being used only once though. He was a famous DJ in Indy and
on WCFL in Chicago. Barney Pip was killed in an auto accident in Indy 13 years ago.

Weren't there 2 guys calling themselves "Roger W. Morgan" at WIFE in the '60s (not at the same time, of course)? That's the only one I can think of from my youth.

This isn't an Indiana story, but I think the record for the greatest number of guys with the same name on the same station has to be "Bob Raleigh" at WPGC in Washington, DC. From what I've heard, that name was used by 6 different men between the late '50s and mid '70s.

Yep. Don Burdon, owner of Star Stations (WIFE KOIL etc) also had a "Buddy Scott" at nearly all of his stations.
It was rumored that he saved on buying jock shouts/jock jingles by doing this.

Yep...Barney worked at 'CFL, also WOKY Milwaukee, WISH-AM Indy, WPIX New York, and WGLI Long Island (his last gig). He was one of the greats -- tragic that he died in that car accident. I get to fill in on mornings on one of the above named radio stations this Friday. Fun.

Barney had a short gig in the late seventies early eighties in Brazil Indiana atWBDJ 97 DJ. I had the very great honor of working and having conversations with tis Radio Legend!!
