Most depressing country songs

I don't think we've mentioned the Hag here. So I suggest Mama's Hungry Eyes, Kern River, or In My Next Life

This is actually a feel-good song.

It's depressing at first, but it has a happy ending.

It's spoken-word with country instrumentals and I heard it yesterday on the radio.

A trucker is on his CB and hears from a little boy whose father was a trucker who died in an accident.

And when he announced his address, every trucker in range ended up on his street and gave him a ride, like his late daddy used to do.

The song is "Teddy Bear" by Red Sovine- a number one hit from 1976

Any song with the words, "beer" or "whiskey" in their lyrics. I love both, but know that if I wrote a song an included the fact that I was drinking in the storyline, that most likely I would have been depressed at the time

"Concrete Angel" by Martina McBride. Martina seems to have had a knack for story-songs with unhappy or tragic endings... cue also "Independence Day" and "A Broken Wing."

"Walk a Little Straighter, Daddy" by Billy Currington. Sounded a little too harsh and depressing to me. I think the song was about a guy dealing with his dad's alcoholism.

Tommy Shane Steiner's What If She's An Angel although the message is good, I didn't really like the guilt-trip aspect.

I've been trying to find that song since it came out, but I thought Joe Nichols sang it! Thanks so much :)

"He Stopped Loving Her Today" is the all-time most depressing Country song as far as I'm concerned. oor guy dis of a broken heart but at least the woman who left him is nice enough to show up at his funeral.

Couple others: "backside of Thirty" Jon Conlee
"D.I.V.O.R.C.E"-Tammy Wynette.

Speaking of Red Sovine, nothing is more depressing than "Faith in Santa". Poor abused kid finally dies on Santa's lap.

Brad Paisley and Alison Krauss "Whiskey Lullabye". Incredible award-winning song. Video kinda threw me off as it doesn't quite illustrate the lyrics, "She put him out...". Excellent song though! Conway Twitty's That's My Job hits a soft spot too since it's now been 2 years since I lost my Father to a brain tumor.

Geez guys,, Im having to choke back the tears just reading about some of these..lol

Gr8 Oldies beat me to listing Tammy Wyneete D.I.V.Co.r.C.E

Also, I cant beleive no one has mentioned that song Go Rest High on that Mountain,, I forgot the artsist but it was one of the songs played at my uncles Funearal.

Also a more recent song that I find sad is that I first heard it about a week after my wife of 7 yrs left me,,, that would be Chris Cagel's-What kind of gone.... Lyrics go,, theres gone for the day and gone for the night, and gone for the rest of your dog gone life, except whiskey night, with just a coule Beers...

Also,, Ronnie Millsap-Smokey Mountain Rain is kinda sad as well.

And another song I dont know the title and artist, It was a female single,,, but the lyrics go, How can I help you, to say goodbye,,, Lifes about changes, nothing ever stays the same...

Vince Gill did that one.

How Can I Help You Say Goodbye by Patty Loveless
