Most Memphis???

So...I open my Sunday Morning paper, and there's an insert in there. It's all about what "Their Readers" voted as "Most Memphis." (Personally I figure it's more like "Who spent the most in advertising with us, ranked by three in each category", but I digress)
Anyway...I see FM100's Morning Show rated as "Most Personable" or something.
Here's my thing...according to all reports on this site and from other sources, FM100 is tanking in the ratings, not only in the morning but throughout the day. Again...I've seen no ratings, simply regurgitating information gleaned here and elsewhere.
The question is, WHY were they voted the most anything? Is it the name recognition (heritage, etc.) from glory years past? Is it the same thing about Memphis that gets people like Willie Herenton, nearly any Ford, and Ricky Peete re-elected no matter what sort of idiotic and crooked thing they do?
I'm not only being a smart-aleck here...I really can't see why when they get miniscule ratings-they can win a vote like this. Did Ron and Karen stuff ballot boxes or get someone to do it for them? Did they get three voted while no one else got any?
Here's another thought. The runner up was Karson and Kennedy. Did I not read where Karson Left with an L a while back? However.....
I must remember that the runner up for "Most Soulful" was Isaac Hayes-who lost to BB King. That's all fine, but I guess what I stood out most was that they reported Isaac was not only still an Icon in Memphis music, he was CURRENTLY in the studio recording new music. Wow! What a screw up! Amazing!
Either the Editors are extremely lazy and didn't want to go back and prevent that little error, no one at CA cared about it, or possibly, the whole thing is a load of crap!
Oh well, I guess that any publication that says the best fried chicken in Memphis is Gus's, (which it is), but calls the runner up KFC, (ewwww!), has lost a little touch anyway.
Pardon my rant...but the point is, that other than to sell a bunch of ads to the businesses that win (thanking Memphis for voting for them IN the very publication that touts them)- what is the point of this "poll?" I contend there is NONE.

Have I answered all my own questions?

Rant Over.

Meep.
(voted Memphis' most sarcastic former washed-up radio personality)
(It's true...I voted for myself in this poll, and I was the only one who took it)
;D

Now, a good salesperson can take a book, play Jedi mind tricks with the numbers, and leave you thinking the station they rep is number one in something; but the last I heard, FM100 wasn't "sucking" to the extint that one would think (by 2008 standards), considering the abuse they receive on these sacred pages. Those better informed, of course, are welcomed to beat my previous run-on sentence into hash, since I also depend on third-party anecdotal information that had 100 high(-er than some) in non-ethnic money demos.

Well, again, I'm working only with info I've seen here basically.
But the question remains...If their ratings are so bad...why did they win whatever they got in the "Most Memphis" deal? Seems to me bad ratings would equal NOT winning a public poll.
I'm not raggin' 'em, here, Rob.
I'm askin' a question.

Even when I worked there, that question was aksed. FM100 has always been an anomaly and never IMHO really lived up to its potential.

As for your question...

Pure name recogntiion probably has something to do with it, as well as force of habit.

FM100 was for a long time the top biller even though the numbers were not stellar. Don't know if that's true any more but I wouldn't be surprised.

As far as the copy on Isaac, there was a mention in the......corrections.........box in the paper saying that the publication was done before Isaac's death.

ratings or not....FM100 is the No 1 radio brand in Memphis.....still living off the past I'd almost bet that a large percentage of the voters in that poll think Tom P. is still there doing afternoons.

Either that, or they're wondering why FM 100 is on 98.9!

;D

I saw the ca article on the winners of the radio d-jays and was not surprised at all.
Its just a survey of the reeders of the commercial appeal. It ain't scientific. Don't break it down like your somekind of chemist Mr. meep. what stations in memphis are the best...any in your opinion? what does arbytron say about karson and kennedy and the max? what about that.
* Raifords this weekend will be on..full on: matching watches and shoes to go...c ya..r899unme

Arbitron doesn't say anything about Karson & Kennedy as the show ceased to exist in April, prior to the spring book.

Thank you for bringing that up Karson. That's kind of a point I was making in the original post when I said,
"Here's another thought. The runner up was Karson and Kennedy. Did I not read where Karson Left with an L a while back? However....."
Thus, the theory that it's just because FM100 is a heritage has holes....
