Well, we discussed music jocks, how about talk show hosts. Mckee was not the man in that area. I would have to say Boortz is the best Atanta has ever had.

I was a big fan of Ed Tyll.

Neal Boortz (Most popular over a 35 Year Period)
Clark Howard (Created the genre of consumer talk in Atlanta. Huge ratings for over 15 Years)
Rush Limbaugh (Not an Atlanta show but one of the most popular in Atlanta over the years)

No one else should be on the list.

I think you have to put Ludlow on the list too. Folks of an older generation tuned into this guy religously for years for his home spun banter.
______________

Hey wait a minute, you guys are forgetting "Major" Tom Clark and Ian Punnett!

WGST was telling everyone who would listen back in 1995-96 that those 2 guys were "THE FUTURE OF TALK RADIO"!

Not sure if either are still employed in radio anywhere in any capacity....but I do enjoy Tom's Huddle House commercials.

I think Sean Hannity gave Boortz some real competition when he was on WGST. He was good enough to get the interest of an upstart Fox News Channel, and the rest, as they say, is history.

He would for people who believe Bush didn't really win the election, and that the second plane didn't actually fly into the Pentagon.

Ian was actually a very smart guy. He tried to do intelligent issue oriented talk but, of course, that doesn't work in Atlanta.

It doesn't work anywhere. Some people are waaay more concerned with being smart than being listenable and entertaining. They miss the point of the medium altogether

Ian's problem was exactly that. He *TRIED* to be "intelligent". Unfortunately, he was just irritating.

He came off as condescending, smarmy, and holier-than-thou on the air....not to mention incredibly BORING.

The result is that he took all that audience he inherited from Hannity, and drove them right to Neal Boortz.

I scratch my head and wonder how one can blame Atlanta listeners for choosing a talk show that entertains them, over one whose host preaches and brags about how much smarter and more cultured he is compared to the rest of the world.

Ike Newkirk circa 2003 " we need better voting machines, one's that dont use paper so there is no dangling chad this time!!"

Ike Newjerk circa 2005 " we need a paper trail, now that my man lost!!" (and the 3rd parties fought and paid for an investigation )

plus, the only way he can debate opposing views is to pod down callers with good points and bully them, like Boortz.

Still, I listen to his moonbat callers for the sheer entertainment. Maybe they should have a real open line and just let the listeners do the show.

Good point-though I was not living here during the 90's when
Boortz and Hannity went head-to-head in the mornings, Boortz
and Hannity at one time had about 25% of the Men 25-54 listening
audience between 9-12 mornings with Boortz having a 13 share and
Hannity having a 12 share. Very likely, that kind of
competition will NEVER be seen on Atlanta radio for a long,
long time here.

Hannity makes me hurl......3 hours a day feels like 3 root canals a day.

What about the 2 live stews - aren't they considered a "talk" show?

Ian Punnett works here: http://www.fm107.fm/ That would be the Cities alternative to KSTP, WCCO, and Air America Minnesota.
He also does the weekend editions of "Coast To Coast AM".
______________
