Most Successful B-94 LineUp EVER !!

1983 - 1985

VP Programming - Dan Vallie
PD's - Steve Kingston & Guy Zapoleon
Mornings - Quinn & Banana
Mid-Days - Jeff Ballentine
PM Drive - Don Geronimo/Bruce Kelly
Nights - Mike Elliott/Clarke Ingram
Overnight - Troy Boy

Beat WDVE - Killed WHTX - other than KDKA/largest 12+ in Market History.

Completely agree with the posted line up. That's when it truly was the best! At the time, I was a big Hitradio 96 fan, but the "B" was just too strong to beat.

My dad was working downtown on Fort Duquesne Blvd at that time and he told me that the station was on automatic for a while and was still using the call sign of WJOI. He remebers a guy going by the name of Kawalski (spelling?) as one of the original DJ's.

1996-97ish

Mornings: John (original Dave) Bubba, Shelly
Mid Day: Not sure...was it Ron Man?
Afternoon: Johnny Hartwell
Overnight: Bender

This is when i first started listening to radio and B94. I would put my headphones on after school and would listen until 10pm at night, just tape recording the station, pretending to be a B94 DJ.

Middays was Heidi Stern in 1996 and Kerri Griffith in 1997. Bender did nights and Ron Man was overnights

David Edgar was in there after that...

Billtanner (if that indeed is your real name): Agree with all but one comment on your post...the B did NOT kill WHTX, it killed WXKX (actually, WXKX killed itself by trying to morph from a bubblegum CHR to Rock 40 to flat out deep album tracks; that this happened while the B was building a solid mainstream CHR certainly didn't hurt the boys at EZ).

WHTX signed on in February 1983 at a 2.7 inheriting a big WXKX cume and the flat-out worst TSL I've ever seen, and was up to a 4.1 by Spring, a 5.1 by Fall and a 6.1 in Spring 84, drawing to within a share of the B by Fall 83. HTX had the third largest cume in the market by Fall 83, beaten only by KDKA and WTAE...the B's cume was actually slightly lower.

But I agree...the B's lineup during that period was by far the best in its history, and one of the best talent lineups assembled anywhere.

When did O'Brien and Garry move to FM? And when did Paulsen arrive for PM drive?

Has anybody heard anything about who the on air staff for B 94 is going to be yet?
I'm beginning to think that they will have a syndicated morning show. I think it was Feeball that mentioned Ace and TJ for the syndicated show. Does anybody know where they are out of?

CBS Pittsburgh is notoriously slow in hiring, so I wouldn't be surprised if it takes a while.

I'm curious though, what makes you believe that they will go syndicated for the AM show?

I just think CBS will not spend a lot of money for a big local morning show. I could be wrong though.

I see what you mean, but I believe that they'll go in a different direction.

They will be going up against a local AM show with Kiss, and historically (not counting Stern), syndicated AM shows have not done well in the Pittsburgh market.

Also, I believe that CBS will want to avoid another failed station on that frequency. Let's face it, they've had egg on their face after having to flip that station 3 times plus a couple of re-brandings of the B before that.

Plus, B94 was Keith Clark's baby and it killed him to have to flip it.

So I think that they'll go all out to put on the best live talent that they can find to make it work this time.

But...then again, this is CBS...

They just paid out a lot of money to buy out Paulsen, and presumably Mac and Steigy as well.

Kinda like being over the salary cap....

Look for jocks sometime after the first of the year, that would be my guess.

The Zone was blown up now so that all of the considerable financial carnage was contained on this books this year, including a really, REALLY large paycheck to Paulsen and some smaller ones to Steiggy and the rest of the staff. With that kind of money driving away down Greentree Hill I can't see that there is anything left for the kind of advertising budget and airstaff budget that the station is going to need. First of the year is more than probable on both counts.

Station is actively talking to several former members of its staff along with a couple of other interesting names that have appeared on the radar screen recently. Morning show will be live with overnights and possibly some weekend shifts voicetracked.

Ace and TJ are syndicated out of KISS 95.1 (A CBS station) in Charlotte.  They seem to have a very Southern slant to their show.  I would be surprised to hear them in a Northern market like Pittsburgh.

Also, agree. Of course, those were the years I worked parttime as 'Alfred E. Newman' as Chris Jagger did using 'Tom Murphy'. Also, somewhere in there, let's not forget Tom 'truckin' cookin' Kent! I think he did 10P-2P just before Clarke.

I agree to a point, but CBS Pittsburgh is an AFTRA station with no agreement for voicetracking...yet.
