Mostb1 and KCRW

Continuing the conversation about public radio in a new thread so Zumahans (the new moderator) won't get upset:

When did you work there, 25 years ago?

There is nothing amateur about NPR news or KCRW's current talk programming. I don't like all the music Nic plays on Morning Becomes Eclectic, but a lot of it is very good. I've purchased many CDs that I first heard him play.

For those who want to hear more than the same 100 records from the 80s over and over (like the new 93.9), stations like KCRW are a godsend.

I'm sorry that your music tastes are not sophisticated enough to enjoy stations like KCRW or KDLD. I don't mean that as a slam, everyone is entitled to their own tastes and interests. But I really feel sorry for you, you are missing out on a lot of great music.

Zumahans is an idiot. He's a pest who never backs up any of his statements when challenged.

------------> More than 25 years ago. It was unprofessional then and still is. I've gone back to be a guest speaker and still stay in touch with an SMC teacher who is so far removed from the reality of the industry it's comical.

------------> NPR is a left wing hit job news organization. I find no redeeming "acurate" news reporting coming from that organization what-so-ever. The U.S. government should strip all funding of it (and PBS for that matter, too).

----------> I find Movin 93.9 so far to be quite a professionally run shop. I like it a lot. I "hear" a winner in the making. It will make tons of cash for Emmis and send Clear Channel scrambling.

I'm sorry that your music tastes are not sophisticated enough to enjoy stations like KCRW or KDLD.

------------> Thankfully so. And now that Arbitron is going to include non-commercial radio stations in the ratings that you all get to see, everyone will now know that hardly anyone listens to these crap stations. On KDLD, it's a joke. It's a complete failure. You could put a 10khz zone on and get the same rating they are getting. Sophisticated L.A. ain't listening to it. Get over it.

I don't mean that as a slam, everyone is entitled to their own tastes and interests. But I really feel sorry for you, you are missing out on a lot of great music.

Classical music and anything "eclectic" belongs only on the non-commercial dial. It's not mass appeal. I only like mass-appeal music. And I am missing nothing. Just like the majority of L.A. and the nation. Period.

I would say that KCRW handles its business model "differently" than commercial radio does but when I did work there 25 years ago (no joke!), I thought it was a very professional operation. I've seen many public radio operations during my broadcasting tenure and, by far, the best was KCRW. As far as their music selection, that's just your choice. Thank God you live in a country where you have the freedom to make that choice.

God Bless America (and I bet KCRW still plays Kate Smith every now and then) :D
