Motor runs but doesn't start...

I'll explain...
Motor runs but doesn't start...

My ITC Delta triple decker was tweaked by the CBC. The motor runs upon cart insertion instead of continuously (and add-on circuit with relays and diodes)
I've been noticing that after a long time out of duty the motor wouldn't run if not helped by rotating the capstan shaft with my fingers. That would be enough, that would be a one time problem.
Not anylonger. the machine is on for a long time and if I let the motor stop completely I'll have to "give it a push".
What should I start looking at?...

I vote for TomT answer...have experienced similar problem in past. Be sure to get premium lo-noise replacements, or you will have a noisy motor ALL the time...JBI

Complementary info...
a cart inserted and the machine power cord removed... when I insert the plug the motor runs fine... the "kick" is higher in that situation... still the bearings? :-[

The motor is a sealed papst, the only bearing that I'm aware is the shaft top one... ::)

The Delta's have a loop servo type motor drive.
Distant memory says it's normal with those.
We ended up with them running all the time.
The jumper to have the motor stop when the cart is out is not really to be used.

It's probably the bearings. "Missile-grade" bearings are not that much more expensive, and are far quieter than the usual machine-grade ones. They'll last longer, too. Worth it.

I don't want to sound stubborn because I'm note even tech qualified.

@boiseengineer
The machine isn't jumped on the motor control. It's an add-on made by The Canadian Broadcast Corporation that controls the motor logic.

If the problem are the bearings shouldn't they run noisy?
None of the machines that I've changed bearings had problems besides noise. I've fixed the Criterion 90 triple decker while the Criterion 90 recorder is still noisy even with the new bearings ( don't know what else to do in that case). Those motors run on ac 110v, while the Delta is dc controled. I was expecting to read something regarding the capacitors (again, I'm not qualified being this a simple hunch, perhaps wrong).

Today I had a look at the add-on. Besides relays, diodes, resistors there's a small elect. cap rated 220v (the machine runs @110v).

If it's been "modified" maybe they figured out a way to give it a harder kick-start than a stock Delta.
From the notes in the old file folder here (without any books now) the ones we had would start most of the time.
But not starting 100% got us in trouble so they were jumpered to runall the time.

I'm looking at a stock Delta right now. It's been on the shelf for maybe 15 years?
Plugged it in & it runs. Bearings a little noisy. Says on motor "new bearings 02-1991".

Lot of the Delta's I delt with had ceramic shafts.
If you have to change those bearings be aware the shaft will easily break.
Don't drop the motor even a few inches! Did that once.

CBC made a simple circuit board and picked up the 3 microswitches wires and the motor control ones. Upon cart insertion the motor runs (should) as did until a few days ago) I don't see any tweak regarding a harder kick-start.
I've took a look at a Delta 1 motor and there's a bearing on the lower side of the shaft, above the motor top. I can't see a way to remove it since it looks craved. And the shafts are metalic ;)

Maybe you've got something completely different than a stock Delta motor wise.
Stock Delta motors have their motor drive PC board attached to it.
Maybe have been a plastic disc to cover the bearings that you'de have to tease up with it running.
All the Delta's I seen have a C-clip to hold the shaft in.
