Blaine Handerhand, the former Mount Carmel police officer who was caught with thousands of child pornography pictures and videos on his home computer has been sentenced to eight years in Federal prison. He pled guilty earlier this year and sentencing was delayed multiple times. Handerhand was a former Chief Engineer at WMIM Mount Carmel and WSPI Shamokin. Additionally, he and a family member put an FM on the air in that area, which was later sold. He was also fined $75,000. The judge said he took into consideration Handerhand's life of community service both as a long term police officer and thru his activities in the Boy Scouts where he reached the rank of "Eagle Scout".
As a personal note, I knew Blaine. There was never, ever one shred of indication he was involved in this sort of thing back then. He was a good engineer and broadcaster. Understand, this is NOT a "Jerry Sandusky" case! There was no evidence he was involved in any activities of that nature with children...just the "warehousing" of pictures. Reportedly, after the evidence was discovered, Handerhand allegedly said, "My life is over." There were also reports involving his alleged desire to commit suicide. I don't know much about these things but I wonder when these things happen and somebody gets involved in such crap, is this because of unbridled lust or something actually goes wrong in their brain.
