Mountain Morning Mystery Solved

Allaccess.com reports that Sean Demery will start at the Mountain next Monday the 26th. He's done some consulting and was the guy behind the launch of 99X-Atlanta and programmed Live 105.

I've known Sean for years and he's a very cool guy. Apparently he spent the past few years hanging in the mountains around Park City and wanted to get back to civilization. He'll do great and we're in for a nice new 'talent treat'.

The big question for me is, where is Marty (another favorite)....?

I wouldn't put too much thought into any decisions Entercom makes because they are all usually short-term before they realize they screwed up. For kicks one day, research all the former shows of an entercom seattle station and read the quote from the PD. It is very comical. It usually goes something like this....."The Marconi Show has dominated Portland for years and we're honored to bring their talent to Seattle airwaves for years to come." And by years I guess they meant 35 shows. Or "Lazlo's passion and vision makes him an amazing addition to our team. I look forward to the incredible heights to which he will take The End." And by heights we mean the in the crapper.

So take any move they make with a grain of salt. It probably will not last long.

If Sean is starting what happens to Dave Benson, another former San Francisco program director?

Dave is the P.D. and Sean is the Morning guy.

You forgot two words:

For now.

The off-air PD is becoming as rare as a live overnight shift. What makes you think Entercom cost-cutting won't kill Benson's gig and hand the programming reins to Demery?

Nothing makes me think they won't, I'm merely stating a fact.

C'mon Entercom

I'm telling you most ppl that work in that building are idiots. 2 days of a new morning show host, yet NOTHING on their website about their new morning man? How long does it take for one to write a bio and upload a photo? So when you see so many people on this board complain about the state of Seattle radio, its because of all the good talent that has been shown the door and the schmucks who continue to pull into the Met Park parking garage and seem to overlook the simplest of tasks.

Well cowboys Seattle finally got itself a second good morning show at KMTT. New Website is a comin. Course some fools would rather put up any old bio crap rather than try to get it right and unique :-\ Better quick than quality :-X Sean was good in SF years ago and is just as good now. Seems Seattle finally has two or three good morning shows and they just happen to be at ole Entercom Seattle. Actually for those in the know, the best GM in the entire chain is now in Seattle and the cluster is better for it. WOLF now crushes COMPASS, KISW is crushing KZOK especially in mornings, THE END is the best it has sounded in freakin years and now KMTT has a real major market talent in mornings 8) Check out the PPM's in the last couple months cowboys  Entercom is comin on ;D

Listen "Fitzy"KISW doesn't compete for the same audience that KZOK does.
Also tell me how a country schlep like you knows that the End is soundin better than it has in years?
You don't know the music there and you've only been here for what 3 years maybe?
So what you're saying is that you knew what the station "sounded like" before you arrived here? back when the End had a great air staff and were "all about the music"?
I'd say that what's going on here is that you're drinking the kool aid circulating 'round the Olive Way compound and going by what you hear some executive spout in a sales meeting or perhaps in the mailroo or just around the office.
Tsk...Tsk... there Tex, you don't want to do that, makes you look bad.

Oh and BTW I know A LOT of Mountain listeners who loved Marty & Jody and from my standpoint they had a good show and did well for their target demo so when you go and say that the Mountain "finally" has a good morning show you're VERY mistaken because they already had one.
Oh and did you ever have the guts to tell Marty & Jody that you thought their show was piss poor? I bet not, it's easier to throw shots after someone's gone isn't it?

Here's the problem with Seattle radio...there is no MUST LISTEN TO morning show. You wanna know why everyone is going to a music intensive morning show? Because no one in this town has the balls to do a morning show that is entertaining. Every corporate "suit" is worried about keeping their jobs and keeping the PPM happy. If people want more music in the AM, they listen to an iPod or CDS. People WANT to be entertained in the AM and NO ONE here is willing to do it. Music shows only beat entertaining shows when there are no good entertaining shows.

Let's see someone get a 25 share in the mornings...not gonna happen because no one in this town can do it, and no PD's are willing to take a chance anymore to make it happen.

Come on Seattle programmers....grow a pair! The New Mountain show will be more music, the End is more music...and it's doing well in the ratings. But come on, who is really saying "Did you hear what happened on the End this morning?" or "the wolf?" or "the mountain?"

Also, you can update a website in the time it took me to write this post. The Mountain sure could have made a quick page and bio for the new show, then launch and all new page later.

A few things cowboys to think about:
1. The 'Must hear" morning shows you liked worked in Diary because everyone wrote em down but no one really listened to em :-X In Am radio it really sucks cause it turns out no one listened to the conservative talkers and those that do are over 55 :-X

2. Turns out the morning shows that seem to work in Seattle have mucho bigger cume than anyone ever thought. Have ya seen BJ Shea's 25-54 men, frickin awesome. Have ya seen Fitz's 18-49 women, frickin awesome. KUOW owns 25-54 in mornings. K and A may be old but they got huge numbers among the old ladies :p Just because you don't like them doesn't mean there aren't shows with bigger numbers than ever before in this soggy cowpie of a town.

3. Do you really think Fitz would be stupid enough to post this stuff ??? Get real. I am not even in the market anymore, but I can tell you things are hoppin in Portland today with Alpha who is bringing radio back. Soon to be coming to Seattle and this cowboy will leave it at that 8)

The MYSTERY is WHY the new PD threw out a long-term Mountain host (who was just finally settling into the morning slot) and the funniest female in Seattle radio and then replaced them with a couple of out-of-towners who sound just like the two that were dumped, but aren't as funny and don't know anything about Seattle.

By the way, Sean, Ravensdale is not in "southern Washington", "way outside of our area." And talking about the rain like it's newsworthy? A little like if you were on in NY and you pointed out to your listeners that the Yankees are the local team.

And people wonder why we hate Seattle transplants.

Well the Mountain has finally put a bio up of their new morning man. Now to a game that is fun for all....How many grammatical errors can you spot in a bio? Gee this is sad.

Hiya!
Well first things first… If I can just get up earlier than a most dairy farmer and make it to work without hitting to many red cones on the way to the station, then the rest ought to come rather naturally, right?
I’m big on hiking with my wife and dog, boarding when the weather’s right and getting my Kayaks from my garage in Utah into storage here where I could use them more often…. Cha!
I’m most recently from Park City, Utah where Winters are used up with boarding at one of 8 rec areas with 15 minutes from the house and summers hiking one the 27 trail heads in my neighborhood. Shawn Stewart already bought me a book of day hikes so I’m stoked about that. I also spent the last couple years telling a few Alternative and AAA stations what to do. Now I’ve come here for a dose of that applied to me!
I’ve worked at radio’s in Atlanta, LA , San Francisco and San Diego. I’ve been trying to get to the Puget Sound for almost 20 years and have ended up every place else but…which has been a little frustrating. I like radio gigs because it’s gets me close to huge music libraries and a cavalcade of new music that finds its way to the station on a daily basis. Big music fan. Reality TV is a mystery to me, you’ll have to explain that one. I love old movies from the 30s, 40s and 50s where they had to depend on the dialog because effects were ziltch.
According to my play count on my iPod, favorite bands are The Shins, Ryan Adams, Rolling Stones, Radiohead, REM, Pretenders, The Ocean Blue, Pink Floyd, Jackson Browne, Police, Arcade Fire, The Verve, U2, Spoon, The Smiths, Silversun Pickups, Stevie Wonder, Great Northern, The Cars, Death Cab for Cutie, Marvin Gaye, Moby, Led Zeppelin, Kings of Leon, Tracy Chapman, Kasabian, 10,000 Maniacs, Stone Roses, CSN, Tom Petty, Hockey, Elton John (pre 1977), Duffy, The Decemberists, Ryan Adams, The Clash, Bruce Springsteen, Billi Holiday, Bodeans, Patti Page, Beck , the living Elvis… and, and… oh heck that’s all I can think of right now.
I’m excited to be a part of the Mountain. Now I gotta go… I’m gonna miss my ferry to Bainbridge…
Enough about me… how are you?

First, since this might be my first post. Hello to you all. I found this site when trying to find out what happened when Mike West was let go and have checked in once in a while to get a "behinnd the scenes" kind of look from you all. It's been informative...and entertaining.

So, I checked in again to see why Marty and Jody were pulled from the air. I've been a fan of Jody's since the 107 days, a fan of Marty's since, what, the KXRX days? Been a fan of Mikes since the KISW days when they would play 13 or so AC DC songs in a row on Friday nights while cruising Alki, Renton Loop and Golden Gardens...and of course "Leave it to Beaver"

I've given the new morning show some time, but it just keeps hitting me as a dry version of Marty and Jody. Same show set up with the guy being the main conversationalist and the lady adding witty comments and news. Heck almost the same sounding voices. The play list seems like it's changed (which I like so far), but I'm definitely missing the M & J show.

Kmtt gets rid of John Fisher and I'll be totally gone from listening.

So, "GenXRadio" your right...i'm one of those listeners who thought they already had one.

Anyone know where Marty and Jody have gone?

Thanks all.

the brakes,

Do they have open sites? I'm not a facebooker. Don't know if I want to sign up just for that.

Thanks,
