Moves by 1010

I still listen to the local sports AM's in Tampa Bay.... I know, my curse.

1010 looks like its just made a couple of nice moves to their weekday lineup. Shaun King and Toby David from noon to 3 is a major upgrade from what they had in there before. Also noticed in the paper this morning that Lynne Austin will co-host Mike Pepper's morning show a couple of days a week beginning tomorrow -- another positive move.

Not an insider, but if rumors are true that virtually all of 1010's local programming is bartered, they are managing to do a solid job there. Beats the hell out of listening to 620's Ron and Ian brag about being BFF's with Bon Jovi (happened this morning) or Benarzyk's daily dose of Tim Tebow hater-ade on 1040.

New 1010 slogan suggestion; "Weakest signal, but Tampa Bay's strongest sports lineup."

I'm glad someone brought this up. I like the change of the 12-3 program. Much better. Still not fantastic, but... The Grind was terrible. I tried many times to like that show, but just couldn't listen for extended periods of time. I really wanted to email Pepper about it, but couldn't find his email address anywhere on the site. Would have loved to have TK or The Free Stretch back, but these guys are a good addition... hopefully. The only bad thing I think is, Toby David doesn't have a good radio voice. But as long as he's intelligent, should be fine.
The Grind just bothered me. I mean, I know sports radio isn't easy, but I think any two guys in Tampa feel they could do the same show format as them. They were just two guys talking about sports and had a microphone to do it with instead of sitting in a sports bar. Just a bunch of gimmicks. How much journalistic experience did they have? My favorite times to listen were when Justin would argue against whatever topic Flip was in favor of, and would basically take him to town, piss him off, and Flip would end the argument and go to commercial.
I was never a huge fan of the sports chix, but I always thought Lynne would make a good co-host, so hopefully that works out.

Meanwhile, I guess the fact that Shaun King has NFL experience, it automatically qualifies him to co-host a radio show. Makes sense.

The same rule I guess would apply to Big Dan Sileo? :)

A former quarterback makes more sense than a former waitress. Besides, Shaun King is home-grown...from my old stomping grounds of Gibbs High. I think he is a great addition to 1010.

How? The last two revivals of the Sports Chix ended up doing 0.0 in the Arbitrons.

Morning drive is a crapshoot on 1010. I don't see them making any kind of headway there but just being local is a great addition no matter who's in the seat. However, while all the other guys (exception: 1040's SportsBabe) are running network and voicetracking during the early afternoon, they have a chance to shine. WDAE's lineup is getting real stale and Rome should be yanked. His show has gotten very lame. I wish 1010 the best... and if they're selling the time, ratings don't matter... At least to the station itself. Now if the the hosts can't keep funding, then that's another story.

Sidenote.... I used to like the guy on 1040 afternoons. Nice change from the usual Deumig crap and Whitney Johnson garbage. HOWEVER, Mark Binarz..whatever your name is, needs to get a clue on where he stands in local radio. He is NOT the best show in Tampa Bay radio history (despite was he says) and just crying about this and that everyday does not make good sports radio. Quit ripping the "other guys" and blowing your own horn for a day and work on your form. It's weak just like your management and ratings. I found it funny recently how he was ripping the other local hosts by name and someone called in and asked what he thought of Jack Harris. Mark had no idea who Jack was and proceeded to reply with something like, "Well the guy must suck and have zero impact on local radio since I don't know him." It was classic. If this guy was smart, he'd listen to someone like Jack and follow his lead as a personality.

Email to CBS staff is .... first name.last [email protected]
So, if you know the person's name, it's very simple to email them.

You want Mark to start acting like a senile, pompous neo con who devotes 90% of his show to "what will those stupid Democrats do next?"
