JUst got to see the movie "Talk to Me"

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0796368/

I was wondering if anyone who grew up in DC can tell us about station WOL.

Did the movie portray this station well? I had never heard of it prior to this movie....did WOL have a point in history when it was really popular? Did they have the colorful character DJ's that were in the movie?

I was thinking someone who grew up in DC might have a better understanding of the history and role this station played in DC.
Thanks!

WOL flipped to 'soul' in the summer of 1965, and for the next several years was a slick, great little station. Top quality jocks and the fact that soul music was at its peak made 'em great. They were one compressed mutha on 1450AM in an effort to make the most out of their bad signal. As I recall, they transmitted from a rooftop antenna in SE Washington.

WOL was truly the station that brought "The nitty gritty to the Chocolate City"!

How long did this dominance last?

Was it well depicted in the movie "Talk to Me"?

What happenned to the influences of WOL?

Thanks!
