Movies that bombed as TV series

One that come to mind is:

The Fugitive, with Harrison Ford, was successful at the box office. The TV show, staring Tim Daly, didn't last one season.

Yes. But the first TV series with David Jensen did work and very well -- .

I can name plenty of TV series that bombed as movies...

"The Beverly Hillbillies"...
"The Honeymooners"...
"McHale's Navy"...

Shall I go on? :(

How can you say M*A*S*H bombed? An 11-year run on CBS, which includes the single-most-watched TV episode in history? I never liked the show myself, but I would never doubt its success either!

The Bad News Bears
Delta House (Animal House)
9 to 5
My Favorite Martian
Bewitched

As for Bewitched, that should read that the TV series did well, but the movie with Will Ferrell and Nicole Kidman sucked.

As corny as it was in the 60's, I loved DRAGNET. The off the cuff remarks were hilarious. Then they made the mistake of making it into a movie with Dan Ackroyd which blew in my opinion. The 80's version " Teh New Dragnet " was ok but forgettable. Then it was re lived again starring Ed O'Neil. Awful.

Three of my favorite films:

"Fast Times at Ridgemont High"
"Ferris Bueller's Day Off"
"Uncle Buck"

All turned into dreadful TV series.

Leave It To Beaver
The Mod Squad

Again - these were TV series first, and then became bomb movies, so they don't fit the topic, unless you want to reverse it.

And the Fugitive TV series in the early 60s starred David Janssen, not Jensen

I thought it would be obvious I was joking.

I don't really care for it either, but you would have to be insane to put it on this list. I was just having some fun.

...Jodie Foster appeared in three such flop TV shows before Taxi Driver made her a name star. She had been a supporting regular on Bob and Carol and Ted and Alice, was a lead in an installment of the anthology series Love Story, and was the co-star of Paper Moon. Of those three, only Paper Moon seems to have had any level of post-cancellation rerun success; after ABC cancelled it here, it reran for years in Italy (and I'd love to see Paramount put out the 13 episodes they produced of the TV version on DVD)...

"Animal House" actually spawned 3 TV series in 1978-79. "Delta House" on ABC which lasted about half a season, "Brothers & Sisters" on NBC had a 2 1/2 month run and "Co-Ed Fever" on CBS, a show that was so bad it was canned after one episode.

Other TV shows based on movies that didn't fare so well.............

Logan's Run
Serpico
Private Benjamin
Anna & The King (The King & I)
Tour of Duty (Platoon)
Uncle Buck
The Paper Chase (though it was critically acclaimed)

Some movie-based TV series that had a good run..............
MASH
Alice(Alice Doesn't Live Here Anymore)
The Odd Couple
Fame
Courtship Of Eddie's Father
Friday Night Lights

Private Benjamin

Back in the early 80's there was serious talk among the networks about doing a TV version of the movie "Porky's". That is until someone mentioned how "great" those TV versions of Aminal House did just a few years before, well the idea was quietly dropped. Plus Porkys was only a partial comedy, the other half was actually a drama.

Private Benjamin if I remember correctly actually didn't do all that bad for a TV series. However when Eileen Brennan ( who was also in the movie ) was in a very bad car accident and was replaced with Polly Holiday ( good ole "Flo" from Alice ) the show quickly, very quickly ended.

A series version of "A League of Their Own" only lasted a few weeks on CBS in Spring 1993 (despite the success of the namesake movie with Tom Hanks and Madonna a year earlier and the subsequent interest in the history behind the All-American Girls' Professional Baseball League).

One other that popped into my head as a TV spin-off that crashed and burned was "Dirty Dancing."

Yikes.

The TV series "Planet Of The Apes" only lasted for half a season.

Wasn't there a series based on "Going My Way"? Early 60s', maybe?

"Mister Roberts", too?
