movin 100.7 is on!!!!!!!!!!!!!!the first movin format in Florida

What, you mean like my wife (Heather White) moving to Texas and Dave Scott heading to the wilds of Georgia?

On-topic, though, I love the Movin' format - I'm not sure I see how it's going to do any better than Jammin' did 6 years ago (or whenever that was) because it still has a crappy signal. We, of course, love Tom and wish him all the best...in his future endeavors. ;)

(a little "inside" Cox Radio joke...)

There are a lot of great Jacksonville talents around who are between gigs right now, which is a shame, but it is a business...and the businessmen make the decisions, unfortunately.

Of course, that is meant as no affront to the businessmen - they have businesses to run, and they almost always run them well, at least where profits are concerned. :)

Maybe as an outsider of sorts, I'm just not aware of certain things that go in the inner workings of radio. Maybe a lot of this stuff is "tongue 'n cheek" but I just don't get Tom Murphy returning to 96.9 and then assuming PD duties.
Eagle is doing well so why would they drop their present PD? In fact, the last time I checked I think Eagle is way up there (I think it's #2 in the market 25-54) middays.) Although there is very little on-air participation from Scott Walker who is on the air then, I'm sure management would say...it's working. But certainly I hope I'm wrong because I'd love to see Tom and so many other talented, displaced folks get their lives back together soonest.

And in reply to RadioInsultant a few posts back, you were right on target about a lot of things. When Scott Walker replaced Pat G. I quickly noticed Cool 96.9 was just not the same. Besides the tedious self-serving sweepers, gone were the promotions that seemed to involve the audience more. Even Pat, I'm sure is sick of my saying this but in particular the 12 Days of Christmas was the best thing the station did and it was missed when it was dropped. To this day, I just don't understand why they played the Beatles and Beach Boys not only every hour - but sometimes multiple times an hour. They burned out very quickly - not good when those are the bands that test the best.

But I suspect Scott was brought in to change the direction of the station and position it for what was to be. Cox Broadcasting does not want personality-driven radio. And that's why there was little time for Dave and Heather, for example, to execute anything and so they and everyone else on the air just got flat. I listened less and less after Pat was gone and apparently I mirrored what the ratings were saying.

In retrospect, Cox Radio and even Renda Broadcasting were not keen on the oldies format and especially for the latter - allowed the station to die on the vine.

To answer an earlier question as well - that Blues syanide block is gone. Apparently, they are giving Movin' a chance to succeed which is more than what was done before. That program was a death curse for an oldies format and didn't belong there. But I suspect, 100.7 was just on a holding pattern with their waiting for a format du jour to come along. That seems to explain why they virtually did nothing. A shame and I still don't understand the business sense of what they did - but Renda Broadcasting isn't always logical.

Getting back on topic, I think It's a fresh change for the area. I've been listening for about three hours. Station sounds good. I did notice, however they need to fix the EOM tones on their songs. Some songs fade all the way out before the next element kicks in. So you're Movin' one second then you slow down, then you stop, then you're movin again. Station should flow better.

WAAAAIT a minute everyone. Within a year you'll all be eating crow. Remember this is Renda ...yep Renda ..remember them, the mom & pop operation playing against the big guns. Even if Tony Renda spends marketing money it'll never measure up to what CC and Cox has. Gator is at best very unstable ratings wise. I'm guessing there's a bit of confusion with the 991 and 999 thing. Good luck to Briggs and Bill Scull Jr. and how long is 961 going to call themselves Lite ..short for Lite-weights. Crofton is over ..like years ago ..and when is CC going to wake up and do something with 933. In 3 months we'll all see complaints posted on here about how Jacksonille radio is boring again. What goes around comes around.

Pull your head out of your rear end!!

1. bill Scull was let go months ago
2. Briggs is now at Sunny
3. Tony Renda will be spending marketing dollars as of today!

I would look for Tom Murphy to appear at Cox's Eagle in mornings and more than likely also be the PD. It may be he could bring in Arf too. When Mr Areford was on Rock 105 and had something to promote and work with he sounded great. Tom is a guy who's been beaten down and kicked in the face time and time again and still has resurfaced as one of the bright spots and most talented people in the business. My previous comments would not surprise me a bit. I don't believe for a second that the oldies format is dead in Jacksonville. renda had their head us their butt from the beginning and the music was misguided at best. The fact is that Renda has always been and always will be an also ran company. It's been proven over and over again no matter who the GM was. When Tony Renda tighens this GM's purse strings when TR gets tired of pouring money into 100.7 lets see how long Gary Spurgeon does. The only station Mr Renda cares about is 961. He's already given up on Gator.

Once again soembody who has NO idea waht goes on behind closed doors. Trust me TR sees Gator as the grwoth station in the clsuter not WEJZ.
