MOViN 101.1 Out -- Christmas Music In

Hmmm... Christmas music on an 80 degree day... Welcome to an Australian Christmas. ;D

Slightly OT, christmas decorations went on sale in a store here in Melbourne (Australia) on AUGUST 18!!! WTF???

Look, "Radio People" in the business hate the all Christmas Format...for obvious reasons..but remember the 36 year old woman driving the mini van in Saint Charles who may love this stuff..remember, the audience still matters...

An FM Sports..on a decent signal, could work..IF you can get the Blues or the Rams...or become the FM "big signal" for the Cardinals...what else would you try at this point, that has not already been tried in St. Louis?

Actually, even the majority of the AC stations' target audience hates all Christmas, especially for a full month. Audience surveys have proven this for years, and, when stations poll their listeners on whether or not they should do it, the majority result is always, "NO!". However, if you can even get a 5 share doing all Christmas, you'll be a top-5 station in St. Louis. That's why it's such a common strategy. You lose about half of your audience for a month while picking off enough small percentages from other stations that you do better overall. There's also the fact that a lot of retailers will buy spots on an all Christmas station when they won't buy the station during the rest of the year.

Expect someone else to challenge Y98 with movin's plan. while it took awhile to get to their numbers(top 10 25-54), it seems the signal upgrade was the key. all sports? combine all of the sports stations numbers and you still won't add up to a profitable station for 5 years (ask talk 97.1 how long it took). not for the amount invested in the signal upgrade. hey radio one- when are you going to move in the movin direction? top 5 25-54 women is the sweet spot for advertising.

Why not do another stunt besides Christmas music? Stations used to be so much more inventive in their stunting.

I would not call it a stunt first of all. I would call it a well thought out strategy to bring down KEZK in the winter book, benefiting all of the stations in the Bonneville cluster.

Actually, Christmas music on an 80 degree day is normal if you live in certain areas of Texas, like Dallas or Houston.
