Movin 105.9?

Not that we need another nitch format, but there's a new one out there that CBS seems to like. It's called Movin, a rhythmic A/C format targeting the 25-54 year old female demo. Considering that WOCL is doing so well in the ratings nowadays ;D, and if their not going to go to that Free-FM format other CBS stations have done in other markets that have lit up peoples Aribtron diaries ;D, this may be the place to go. All that would be needed to do is have WOCL's sister station here WOMX adjust their playlist slightly away from that type of music and CBS would have a good combo to sell to that money demographic. Of course there would still be some overlap with their playlists, but (switching to another company) cox does not seem to have a problem with selling WHTQ & WMMO which do have somewhat similar playlists too.

Yeah, that would result in two stations right next to each other, both leaning towards females. Not sure if that would work out so well.

But hey, stuff happens.

look for WOCL to be sold to Salem and go Contemp. Chistian

That could cause problems for Mix, but if both stations are programmed right, both can still fare well (if a flip to "Movin" were to happen). Mix could lean towards rock while of course, the rhytmic station does it's thing.

IMHO, from listening to Movin's demo on their website, I think they would also steal some listeners away from WXXL as well as the three urban stations here.

I can't see Salem buying/flipping 105.9 to Contemporary Christian in an attempt
to go after the "Almighty Z". As far as the Movin format (I listened to the demo as well)
it's the same damn thing as what Power 105.9 was? The only difference between the
two is more currents and a more even match of urban and contemporary artists whereas
Power was more focused on the urban oldies.

O'Rock just needs to go back to it's format when it first came on.
That was TRUE ALTERNATIVE :'(

Ummm...only if apples and oranges are the same fruit. Power 105.9 was Rhythmic Oldies...pure and simple. The Movin' format only plays a VERY small sampling of the same tunes. Movin' 93.9 here in LA probably only plays 10 to 15 of the same tracks that Power played...hardly the same. I do understand that each market is a bit different but Movin' would be a smart choice for CBS. O-Rock IS dead...no life support...flip it now...WJRR has effectively killed it. And BTW...Just because Power didn't work before, the ethnic breakdown in Orlando is different now than it even was in 99-00. Rhythmic music would be a popular and profitable choice...

What 105.9 needs to do is become COOL 105.9 again. It was a top biller in the market in those days.
That will not happen. CC tried somewhat to recreate Cool as Cool 100.3...with marginal results. They shifted to Classic Hits as "Big"...still didn't work and then went to Spanish. And I think that Big was pretty decent musically...playlist was a bit tight but that seems to be the norm now. What worked then will not necessarily work now. Orlando is a very different market now than it was even ten years ago. It has a different ethnic makeup that is not really conducive to the Oldies format...and that format isn't faring well nationwide. Oldies will probably be limited to the AM dial here in the future. The demos of the format are just too old for most buyers...unfortunately.

Movin just came on the air in Dallas - I haven't been near a radio to give it a listen. Oldies - has to adjust. For a while here, it was a "28 year" rule, now pretty much anything in the 70's goes on the air. "Oldies" is more a "60's and 70's" format, the 50's are pretty much gone except for a rim shot. I expect the 60's to go next, so you would have 70's and 80's, etc. It bills very well in Dallas, thanks to strong local personalities. I don't think Orlando's demographic would be that different from Dallas, except for the mix of Hispanics and Blacks who never listened to oldies anyway.
