Movin' 86

TMISU have been given a CP to move KMVP's xmttr to a permanent site about 2 mile north of their leased location. This paves the way for the sale of the station to the outfit that's currently running a Spanish language format on 8~Sixty. The contracted sales price is $3.8m with TMISU spending a maximum of $.8m to move the three sticks. Nurse Jeff and I find it interesting that their new day power is down from 1kw to .94kw but with similar coverage. The big change comes at night as KMVP will put more signal into north and northwest Phoenix. Here's the old pattern: http://radio-locator.com/cgi-bin/pat?call=KMVP&service=AM&status=L&hours=N and here's the new: http://radio-locator.com/cgi-bin/pat?call=KMVP&service=AM&status=C&hours=N The sales contract specifes that coverage from the new site has to be equal or greater than the existing coverage. It certainly is better at night, but still misses a bunch of the metro. And in case you're wondering what becomes of the MVP calls, they belong to TMISU and the new owners of 8~Sixty will have to select different calls prior to closing. Hmmmmm...wondering if MVP will land at a Sports Parking Lot near us??

hopefully it will be a News/Talk parking lot. maybe it's time to file comments. Anybody know any local pilots? LOL!

They've got their choice of two of their own stations: Sports Parkinglot 6~twenty in Phoenix and Sports Parkinglot 7~ten in Seattle. But then again TMISU could probably sell the calls to another Sports Parkinglot operator and recover some of the $$ they're spending to relocate the former Sports Parkinglot 8~sixty.

If the contract closes the new owner is the same guy that had a similar deal with 580 in Tucson. He defaulted on the LMA and also the sales contract. That left the station hanging on for life, with NO money to operate. I have heard that they are making a change on 580 in the next few weeks.

Are you referring to "Barna-vision" or someone else?

The Giant 580's cash-flow situation is probably why I've been
hearing "Colon Blow Saturday" expanded to weekday AM drive,
in the 6am half-hour for example.

The new owner is AIM Broadcasting out of Palo Alto CA and headed by John Douglas. They own a Class 4 AM in Las Vegas and have an LMA with another Vegas Class 4 AM. Where the $3m comes from is a mystery to Nurse Jeff and me!

Yes you are correct AIM does have the contract on 860 but they defaulted on KSAZ in Tucson March of 2007 and have not been involved since. The stations you speak of in Las Vegas AIM has not been part of since May of 2007. They were taken over by the lender.

Barna manages KSAZ in Tucson and KSWG in Wickenburg. Both stations had sales go south and operate on cash flow generated thru sales only.

Last week when in New York I heard that KSAZ in Tucson will change formats next week.

So Barna kind of got stuck "holding the bag" as he was GM-ing
for AIM when they bailed.

Does this more or less kill the COL change to Queen Creek CP?
And what becomes of Dancin' Dan's Dead Air Disco show?

Care to reveal the new format? While I hope it's not another
muy reverb radio, their current Timeless Classics syndie
sat feed is so lifeless and boring. Colon Blow 24/7 anyone? ::)

Interesting stuff, ITD. Check out the stations AIM "owns" on their web page: http://www.aimbroadcasting.com/stations.htm Perhaps they haven't updated it in a while? (check out their other links for more interesting stuff) The Nurse and I would be blown away if TMISU didn't do some due diligence on the buyer of 8~Sixty before signing the contract. But why are we picking up the scent of day old fish? ???

I guess I believe everything I see on a web site, don't you. The easiest way to find out is pick up the phone and call the stations in Las Vegas and Tucson and ask "who owns your station". I will bet my 401K that NEITHER will say AIM Broadcasting. The AIM original plan sounded good, but failed due to financing. Barna was left with the option of going dark on KSAZ or making money any way he could to stay on the air. He is running both KSAZ and KSWG with only a part time bookeeper plus I know he is in Santa Barbara 4 months a year. Those two station are for sale.

As far as the KSAZ new format, all I heard from Westwood One was that KSAZ will carry CNN News at the top of the hour. They gave me three different formats that they thought it was going to but who knows. They did say liners start Monday on the mighty 580.

The Giant 580 posts in this thread have magically continued
on the Tucson board, which is where they probably should be.

But speaking of the former Sports Siberia 860...a little after 7
this morning, I heard what appeared to be either a PA show or
an infomercial--in English! And the I-CRAP was off too.

Currently KMVP (still the legal calls) is back to programas en
espanol
, but the I-CRAP is still off.

Does I-Crap really make Colon Blow sound worse?... we ask rhetorically.

Everytime the Nurse and I listen for a legal ID en Ingles, all we hear is a roster of AM stations and cities en espanol airing the same programming as KMVP. We're sure TMISU have someone on staff making sure their LMA renter is dotting all the i's and crossing all the t's. ::)
