Movin 93.9 Helps Move Emmis to Loss

This statement this morning from Rick Cummings does not make sense (Another book? It was trend. 18 months? The station hasn't even been on for a year yet.):

Cummings also admitted that turning around Emmis’ 93.9 FM signal in Los Angeles from a country station to a “Movin’” rhythmic pop contemporary station has been a much bigger project than first anticipated, but he’s optimistic about recent trends. He said he’d be happy “If we have another book like we had last month in L.A. We didn’t realize how tough it would be to change a country station in L.A. We thought it would take us over a year and it’s been about 18 months. We are several months from knowing, but in the last month the format has been popping.”

More on Emmis L.A. revenues:

– led by a 16% decrease in L.A. revenues where “Movin” KMVN has been slow to take off.

Here's a shock: Launch a tired-sounding format -- featuring songs that have already been burnt to a crisp on other stations -- and do it half-assed, with minimal promotion, no on-air staff (except Dees) and a weak imaging campaign.

Whoa, how come the listeners didn't show up?

Memo to Emmis: If you were going to make headlines and cause huge waves by dumping country, why didn't you plan this out better?

I still remember when they first went on the air. They started out running 10 commercials in a row. What a way to attract new listeners to a station that would loose all thier former audience right away. Ever since then if I turn them on and hear a commercial I don't bother waiting to see if they are still running that many because I always change the station right away.

I am laughing pretty hard at this..... from what I am given to understand, Emmis has spent around 4mil in advertising and are just now.... one year after the flip, finally matching the ratings of the format they replaced.

However, the new country station is leaving them choakin' in the smoke, with little or no advertising..... so, it's all good.
