Movin 93.9

Seriously how long is Emmis gonna hold on to this piece of crap format? They can tweak it all they want, but I have got to believe the name is damaged goods in the market.

Univision should buy both KPWR and KMVN. Yeah, we lose one English outlet, but David at least has more brains then those boneheads.

This is just the latest of the fad formats to take the tank. First JACK-FM craps out in all but a couple of markets, then Movin' bites the big one in ALL of it's markets. Is Fresh next?? We won't know for a while because the name has no history yet. Just like JACK and Movin' the lemmings in the GM chairs will ride any new horse that can keep them in the big chair for another year or so. Movin' is movin' on down the road soon!

Thanks for the compliment, but I have to defend Emmis. In general, they are good radio folks, with a real programmer heading the radio division. The Movin' thing just points out that even the best do not have a 1.000 batting average. It surprises me that they have not figured out the Movin' thing, but we have to remember that the LA market is pretty full of stations, a lot of them pretty good ones, and not an easy place to introduce a new format in and too fragmented for a direct assault on any one station's existing format.

In an era where radio is not always owned by radio folks, I have to root for Jeff, Rick, Jimmy, Val and the Emmis crew, even if they are not winning this game yet... they are one of radio's "home teams" and I'd like to see them succeed.

I used to respect Emmis, but they seem to have made some really boneheaded moves in recent years:

--Signing an irrelevant has-been such as Rick Dees to a large contract

--Canning Country in L.A. because its appeal is not wide enough, and then replacing it with a format whose target audience is seemingly indeterminable! I keep reading they want Hispanic females, but if that's the case, why do they have an old white guy on a station that spins primarily African American artists?

--Firing a well-established morning jock in Chicago right after he scored a #1 book in Men 25-54. Great move.

--Going thru 3 programmers within a period of several years at this same Chicago station, each one getting lower ratings than his predecessor. Guess they decided it wasn't worth it. So what do they do? They eliminated the PD/OM position altogether. ::)

--Their Classic Rock station in Chicago gets spanked by the Classic Rock station that's owned by a bunch of Mormons in both ratings & billing. They have such talented programmers in the building at Emmis. Oh, that's right...they eliminated the position of PD in Chicago. Nevermind. The corporate programmers from St. Louis and dopey consultants from Detroit know better, I guess.

--Remember when they replaced the WENS brand in Indy with a Hot AC/chick talk hybrid known as "Real Radio 97-1" ? That worked REALLY well...LMAO! To Emmis' credit, they did kill off this abortion of a station and replaced it with a newly developed Country brand that has proven moderately successful.

--Red @ 104.1 in St. Louis. DUMBEST. CONCEPT. EVER!!!!

--Briefly dumping Smooth Jazz on CD 101.9 in New York for "Chill" music. Another brilliant move.

--Do I even need to go into the incidents that have occurred at Hot 97 over the past few years?

They clearly have GUTS, but do they have brains? Sure doesn't look like it to me. They can't even handle the small number of stations they already own. It's probably a good thing they didn't get the former ABC stations.

Jack-FM has crapped out?

#1 or #2 English L.A. 25-54

Other 25-54:
St. Louis top three
Dallas top three
Philly top five-seven
Chicago top ten English
Boston top five in the spring - still top ten
Seattle had an off book - but been top ten
Portland top five to seven
Fresno top five
Phoenix top three
Detroit top five to seven
Minneapolis top five
San Diego top five
Pittsburgh top three or four
Kansas City top five
San Antonio top five
Milwaukee (rock-based off shoot) top five
Norfolk top five until last book
Austin #1
Nashville top 3
Greensboro top five or seven
Louisville top three

We can keep going ... Adult Hits has been one of the MOST successful format launches of the last ten years.

How about getting some facts -- it's a GREAT format that is showing legs.

It depends on the market you are in.I enjoy the jack fm in los angeles. In my hometown of louisville ky we have a jack type station called louie fm and it is quite bland and boring where as jack fm in la is not.I also liked the one in nyc they had.But my hometown has always been known for boring radio.I enjoy hearing viloent femmes and the cure boys don't cry and also jack fm will play the nails 88 lines about 44 women.

Very true. Execution and market make-up have alot to do with it...

the 'new' movin is definetely VERY different from the old one...

reminds me of when B100.3 started playing a bunch of old school and then eventually went Jammin' Oldies...

although MEGA 100.3 had the same problem MOVIN does... TOO MUCH DISCO...

disco doesn't work with hispanics.
