Movin' 97.5

All Access just sent out a Net News headline (11:49 AM Friday 10/27/06) teasing that Alan Burns would be launching a new Movin' station today. The full story says it may be delayed a few days. Out of curiosity, I went here:

www.movin975.com

It's for real. It's KRZS. Goodbye, Star. Hopefully Bill Minckler (a good guy and good programmer) gets to stay.

Streaming down...the "now playing" on Star975fm.com has been showing artists and titles for the new format this afternoon.

i liked star alot...

i hope 95five adds more of star's artists and go chill. 8)

i'd like 92seven / 101one to stop play'n movin's artists and go all vinyl, all the time.. stay in tha mix.

Wow! Radio listeners in Humboldt, AZ are pumped!

Is it called "Movin'" because you have to MOVE to Prescott to listen?

For a station that barely registered a blip on the arbitron screen, I've been hearing a lot of lamenting, from friends, regarding Star's demise.

How much time did they give that format to survive, anyway? Couldn't have been more than a year, could it?

And what about Dead Air, er, I mean Dave D'Aire ? Geeze, the guy only had about 4 months as morning guy- not enough time to turn anything around. Oh well, this stint shows his flexibility as a talent. Hope he resurfaces in some sort of rock, or talk format.

He's already doing movie reviews on Gaydos' show as "Hollywood Dave."

Jeff Trumper has a letter written here on the main page of what was the website of Star97.5:
http://www.star975fm.com/

Star 97.5
Dear Star 97.5 Listeners, My name is Jeff Trumper, and I’m the President and General Manager of Star 97.5FM. I’d like to start by offering my sincere gratitude for your enthusiastic support of Star and your continued loyalty to the station. When we launched this brand new format a year ago, we weren’t sure what the reaction would be, but in these past months we have attracted a passionate and devoted following. Unfortunately, the size of the audience has not grown to our expectations...

If Movin was smart they would get Krazy Kid and Cornia to do mornings. Too bad Beau Duran just signed with Kiss cause he could do PM drive. I do think it is great for phoenix to have this many options for some sort of dance.

We have:

Energy 92.7/101.1
Kiss FM 104.7
Movin 97.5

Yeah, they all do it a little differently but it is great to have these stations in phoenix.

Is it only me, or does the old Star processing make Movin' the most full-sounding rhythmic-based station I've ever heard? I'm hoping they don't change the processor settings, but I have a feeling that they may do so.

Yes, it's possible to make an FM sound close to CD quality without HD/IBOC.

The Trumper sez he's looking for a new home for the Star format. Good luck...too many old phart artists for KYOT, too many melodic songs for K-Jazz, and KOY has enough 55+ listeners. Nurse Jeff and I doubt Trumper would use an HD channel for Star as 97.5 already has some signal problems in the Valley. Too bad for the old airstaff. But we suspect they hit the Star Lounge around 5pm Friday and won't be comin' out 'til Monday at the earliest!

Because of dedicated listeners like you, we are working to find another home for Frank, Tony, Ella, Nat, and all the great Star artists, and it is our hope to have Star up and running again in the near future. As soon as we have information on where and when Star will re-appear, you will be the first to know... We look forward to welcoming you back when Star returns to the Valley.

Translation: We're working feverishly on a brand new namby-pamby HD or Internet-only station to resume this format.

Yes more of the same is always better...Perhaps we could get them to invest in a Giant Mirrored Disco Ball and suspend it above the valley.

Please lets not do anything original, that would be wrong...and to hard to understand.

>>>Please lets not do anything original, that would be wrong...>>>

Except for the fact that Phoenix is the Only market in the United States with both a commercial CHR/Dance station and a Rhythmic AC on the FM dial!

Not to mention the occasional freestyle and classic r&b uptempo music played on Mega 104.3/99.3.

Re: Movin' 97.5 stinks

Now it sounds like a lot of the other stuff available... The format was given such a short time to get a toe hold.
As Star 97.5 it was unique and had some thought put into the music quality. Now it is just so much garbage-- simply awful. Pee Uwe
???

Movin' as a brand has a lot of strength - more than most rhythm chr/urban AC in this day and age of musically dull, predictable playlists. While there are signal limitations, Movin' will breakthrough and get its
own turf.

Having a new Urban AC station in the market will be a huge success because of the huge urban population Phoenix has. Also I can just hear the advertisers on the phone wanting to make a buy. Not since Y-95, Pwr 92 and Kzzp were knocking heads have I seen any kind of moxy from any station. This is just another way to fill an FM signal. When will someone step up and put their money NOT in TV advertising to try and get ratings but in people to try and get an audience. Star spent according to them $250,000 in a advertising campaign to kick the Star format off, less than a year later it's dead. Spend the money on the best people for the format you choose. My perdiction is if they stay this course for two years the highest rating will be 1.1 maybe.
