Movin 975: It's A "Transmitter Thang"

They've got the "Music That Makes You Move."

And the signal that stopped. Stopped existing.

For about 12 hours or so.

The station was "off the air" from about 4pm Saturday January 13th until about 5am Sunday, 12/14/07.

Note To Self: LA's "Movin" launched without any on-air hosts or "mixers," but with a nice multi-page website that teased the heck out of the forthcoming arrival of Morning Host Rick Dees (Dees actually began on the air several weeks after the station's launch, after the big "media blitz" was long overwith). Sadly, that multi-page website didn't stream any audio (a special plan put together in the Emmis "DUH" Department, I suppose).

Phoenix' "Movin'" launched with no on-air hosts at all, and a website with only one lame homepage that DID feature the streaming audio feed.

It would be amusing to see what would happen if one of these MOVIN stations actually had ALL THE ESSENTIAL ELEMENTS put together (on-air hosts, fully developed website, streaming audio, marketing campaign, "mixers," etc.....) ON TIME - - that is, at the time of the station's launch.

Heck, success might break out in mass quantities.

Note To Bob Lewis: As you put together all your "ESSENTIAL ELEMENTS" (Morning Host, more web content, other on-air talent, etc...) You should probably get "Movin'" with the engineering department FIRST!

Do you have any idea where the transmitter is located, Larry? ::) It's a mini-miracle that any of those stations stay on the air as long as they do.

It wasn't an electrical outage, because 95.1 (which shares a tower and diplexed antenna) was still on the air last night. 98.3 was also operating as normal. That leads me to believe that it was most likely a tube failure.

It's got to be a challenge just to get to the Towers Mountain site this time of year (are you still out there with stories, RL?). But, there's other sites in the country (the one that comes to mind is Mount Washington, NH) that stay in operation despite unbearable conditions during the winter months.

double the time in the winter ?
