MOVIN 99.1 South Bend

I didnt know Indiana had a rhythmic AC,, this is easily my favorite Indiana station,, but my goodness,, what a horrible Signal.. Any Idea on what kind of numbers this station pulls,,,,, Wish Indy could get a station like this. Their on air talent sounds small townish, but their playlist which is mostly a Rhythmic CHR,, but still plays some Oldschool,, ,is something Indy could use.. Why doesnt Indy have a true Rhythmic or Rhythmic AC.. The closest we have to a rhythmic is Radio Now...

It pulls in terrible numbers. You're right that the signal's not great. Its transmitter is northwest of Niles, and it's a class A stick to boot.

The terrible numbers are probably due to the horrible signal.. You would think it may start doing better since its the only thing resembling an Urban since Power 95.7 got replaced.

Poor 99.1....They have a pretty decent format (satellite fed) and unfortunately their tower is North of Niles. However, I remember a few years back that you could pick up the signal pretty good so I imagine that something isn't quite right with their output. They should do one major thing: Since their broadcast license is the city of Buchanan, rent space on WAOR's original tower on Philip Road in Niles. It brings it closer to South Bend and better coverage as well. The signal would be more than sufficient to cover its city of license.

How about it, 99.1? South Bend needs you!!

Rhythmic AC doesn't target, and doesn't appeal to, the urban audience. Truth is, the format doesn't work much of anywhere. While I'm sure the signal doesn't help, the format is an even bigger problem. It's a turkey, plain and simple!

WSMK 99.1, by the way, was an urban as "Smokin' 99" for years. I always thought it did reasonably well as an urban station, but Power 95.7 ran it out of the market pretty quickly.

The format sound sounded pretty Urban too me,,, with only one Oldschool track from the 90s thrown in an hour,,, It didnt have the usual Dance or AC hits that most rhythmic ACs play.

It could've changed since it first launched. I understand it was originally running the Waitt Radio satellite "Movin'" format. If it did change, I'd say it's a smart move. Like I said before, Movin' hasn't worked much of anywhere. It failed horrifically in Los Angeles, St. Louis, Dallas, Portland and San Francisco, though KMVQ kept the Movin' name when it switched from rhythmic AC to CHR.

The Movin in South bend sounds like a local small market station,,, also It leans heavily on current urban-Rhythmic-Dance product, mostly on Urban,, with very little oldschool,, so i doubt its an alan burns Rhythmic... I would be very happy to see indy get a Rhythmic or a Rhythmic AC, but I have no clue who or what company in indy that has underperformers would do either format. Cumulous doesnt really do Rhythmic AC or I would say I-95 could be a contender, but they will most likely stick it out with CHR or go back to Christian music.. WNTR would be a possible contender since their first effort TEH TRACK leaned Gold Rhythmic AC,, but I dont see either stations MOVIN anytime soon..... GET IT..... And it most likely wouldnt be Movin, since that formular had failed everywhere but Seattle,, but they may be Groovin,, or THE BEAT OF INDY,,or The Party.... Still like most on this board,, I dont see it happening anytime soon. Doesnt WNTR pull decent numbers now,, a Gold Leaning Rhythmic AC like the new 93.9 JAMZ Hawaii and 103.7 The beat in CALI---FRESNO.... or an Oldies leaning Rhythmic AC like the new 101.5 Jamz in Denver would be an equally cheap format to run. Its not Rhythmic AC in general that does bad,, its like the Movin name is coursed...

I noticed on 99.1 in South bend they seemed to refrain from calling it Movin,, except Maybe twice an hour,, they called it The New 99.1,, South Bends Feel Good Station.

For those who complain about 99.1's signal being poor can't blame the station for their tower location. The only reason it isn't closer to South Bend is because they have to protect WKVI Knox on 99.3 (also a class A station).

This is the estimated coverage area of WKVI Knox:

This is WSMK's estimated coverage area: http://www.radio-locator.com/cgi-bin/pat?call=WSMK&service=FM&status=L&hours=U

The FCC setup this spacing many years ago. South Bend has few powerful signals (class B & B1): 92.9, 94.3 (outside of the South Bend Arbitron market, but covers the market well), 99.9 (outside of the South Bend Arbitron market, but strong enough), 100.7, 101.5, & 104.7 for commercial licensed stations.
