MOViN 997 update?

Although the change to 997 NOW FM has not yet happened. I am hearing more and more sweepers just saying 99-7. No mention of MOViN.

Also St. John makes a pause before saying ... NOW, when introducing 'new music'. Example..."New Music, Rihanna, 'S and M'.....NOW then song starts.

Just make the change already!

Now, no pun intended, that I think of it, maybe they have St. John going through everything to be sure 'MOViN' is not mentioned on any pre-recorded announcements.

Not. Gonna. Happen. I believe you're confusing a commonly used English word ("now") with some attempt by CBS to prepare us for a name change. What would the point of that be? ...that if we've heard the word in the imaging for a month, we'll like it better?

Giving a pause and saying "now" sounds like something Bobby Ocean probably said in the 610/KFRC imaging 35 years ago, except Bobby would have milked it into "nowwwwww..."

Again - in an era when radio stations are spending next to nothing on imaging and promotion - not even buying billboard space on the company's own billboards (i.e.: CBS and Clear Channel) - why would CBS create a need to spend money on new marketing when the station has already created an brand identity in listeners' minds, and is increasing in the ratings?

Makes no sense whatsover.

Just remember that "Movin'" was the positioner for the Rhythmic-AC format before the current CHR. Michael Martin makes changes in baby steps.

OK - I give up - maybe you're right, but it still makes no sense. Martin may make changes in baby steps - radio formats evolve all the time. But what's the point in making all the changes, getting much improved ratings for your efforts, and then - but only then - changing the brand of the station?

I understand what the "MOViN" positioner used to mean, but these days, all those radio brands are becoming geneirc, and are used in different markets to brand different formats.

Does Clear Channel care that "Kiss-FM" in San Francisco is old school R&B, when it usually means new hits and CHR in most markets? Don't think so. To Bay Area listeners, it means old school R&B. But perhaps some young tourist from LA will be visiting the Bay Area, stumble into 98.1 first, and wonder why he isn't hearing the latest Nelly hit. Not a problem - he'll just spin the dial (so to speak) until he finds Wild, MOViN, or KMEL.

Too many changes on SF radio,, a small $200.00 investment, and a Iphone4, cures the problem,, now its 1260KYA all day for me,, 'At your home or in your car, this is where you really are" or so the jingle says, These Satelite radio stations with a 300 song rotation, didnt work for me. the playlist was shrinking daily, The 1260 KYA that Gary Mora does is as GREAT, if not better than anything ive heard... I tried 98.1,,, wasnt immpressed,,, being a radio buff as i am,, the Iphone4 freed me from some much repitition! hey Gary Mora, thanks for bringing 1260 KYA back,, and that one TOH jingle,, the one used for years in the 60s,,, sounds great! It was reported, in another thread, that they are going to change only their name to NOW. In order to position themselves to better compete against WiLD 94.9.

Yeah, we get the rationale - "Now" and "Amp" are brands used for CHR and Top 40 stations in other markets. But "it was reported" ...by whom? Somebody in the know, or some radio nerd who's excited by radio station re-branding?

As for registering domain names, I think corporations often do this just to prevent other corporations from beating them to it. Doesn't mean they're necessarily going to use that domain name or brand.

For example, it's a slight disadvantage that KIOI didn't register "star101.3.com" first - somebody beat them to it - so they have to be "Star101.3fm.com."

Registering domain names is very inexpensive - pocket change for most media corporations.

They're already going under the "NOW" name as I'm currently streaming the station.
