MOViN 997 update?

This morning I see the website says "NOW 99.7." Haven't tuned in yet.

At this point, the following can be told: At the triple-ho show in SJ, I was engineering the remote. I observed Strawberry, St. John and Fernando getting drops from the artists, saying "99.7 NOW". Couldn't say anything until it was complete.

WOW!!!! It took them that long to complete the artists to say, "997 NOW? ( from the triple ho show 'til yesteday? )
:D

And let me say KIFR, you were obviously right about this "Now" thing, and I was wrong. Please remember this day...this was the first time I have been wrong since the late 1960s, and I doubt I'll be wrong again in either of our lifetimes.

;D

And the change to NOW also upset the Star 101.3 apple cart as they had just re-imaged with a slogan that features that very word-NOW. Star has to re-image it again thanks to the powers at CC not seeing that it could happen since CBS uses NOW in other markets. Should have been on the Star PD's radar, but he's not even in SF, and has too many station's to oversee and run correctly anyway.

I don't think that's true. "now" is a common word in the English language, so if I understand copyright law correctly, they are within their rights to have a slogan like "Greatest Hits of the 90s and Now." That wouldn't be copyright infringement. That's like saying other stations are prohibited from using the words "live," or "wild."

However, I believe it would be illegal for Star 101.3 to change the station name to "Now 101.3"...though why they'd want to do that, I can't imagine. And if they're using the word "now" promininently, they may decide to stop if they're worried it will remind their listeners of the competition.

Imaging mattered a lot more when people were supposedly writing stuff down in diaries. With the meter, it picks up the signal, and the station gets credit if it's for long enough. Even call letters and freqs (so dear to radio people) aren't really important in the PPM era.
