I've spent a lot of time listening and doing research on this new MOViN' format and was wondering what you think of it and if it would work in the Duke City?
Personally, I think it would do quite well if marketed and executed properly. KKSS had it's highest ratings back in the late 80's and early to mid 90's and I think Albuquerque would love to hear that music back on the radio. Mix it with a few currents here and there and PRESTO! you have a station with pizzazz! Good for a 3 share or better if done right.
Hot 95.1 plays SOME of this music, but mixes it with too many 60's motown titles and gold oldies. Playlist is also too small. If I hear "Papa Was A Rolling Stone" one more time I'm gonna crash my car! And the "currents" that they play are burnt by the time they start playing them. Jocks are good mornings and middays, adequate afternoons and nights. This station needs a music library overhaul.
B101.7 is a joke. They must be rotating the same 150-200 songs over and over again. Their PD obviously does not know what he's doing. No promotions, poor imaging, no jocks (except for 4 hrs. on PM drive). Unless MAJOR improvements are made, it'll be history by next summer. It's just a real bad radio station.
I really think that this market is prime for this type of format. Sure there's a burnout factor, but if WEEKLY music maintenance is done and the station always sounds fresh, it would succeed.
Who could pull this off? Who is more likely to take a shot at it? Or will it ever happen?
