Movin in LA

Movin is a lame format.... I was very disappointed. The music idea is great, but they have some terrible execution on the LA station. The liners and production just sound like lame actors trying to sound "real." It's like soap opera acting! Come on! This is LA... there are a million starving actors that will do anything for a sandwich!! Hire some of them to make the station sound "REAL"

I think the format is GREAT........ but I agree that the execution on KMVN is "poor"... In fact I would cal it downright laughable. Taking about how sexy Kirstie Alley is on a liner is NOT what I want to hear from a radio station.

Emmis needs to throw down the extra money and buy the MOViN jingle pkg

Everytime I punch up Movin 93.9 in hopes they will sound better, the more disappointed I am with how pathetic they sound. How can the number 2 market in the nation sound so low budget? I still believe they must have spent all they had on Rick Dees. Middays sound like Barstow worthy talent. The buffers are played into the ground and I could care less if his Mom won't let him change the frickin' station. Seattle and St Louis Movin's are hot. They sound great and if you haven't checked out their streams to compare you should. LA's Movin is pathetic IMHO.

Who are the jocks on Movin ?

Very disappointed with Movin, especially the morning show. Sidekick Patty seems to be out of her element compared to the likes
of EllenK or Raechal Donohue or LizFulton. I've given up on the station and have switched to AM mornings.

Can someone tell me why Movin is ignoring all the hits that were played on power106 in the late 80's early 90's when that station had a 7 share? Wake up, the people you want now were listening to this station and loved these hits. The best part about it is that most of them have not been played in awhile and would sound very fresh. This station could be top 5 25-54 and top 10 12+ if they would only play the huge hits in this market when their target audience was young. It will make the station stand out, give the station its own niche, and make it sound fresher and funner than any other station in the market. I don't understand why you would throw a muti million dollar station in the hands of ignorant consultants who are going out of their way to play stale, played out music, and ignore major hits that your target audience wants to hear that they cannot find anywhere else.

BTW, enjoying the coming laughs of those claiming movin is a success when it moves up into the high 1s (when it could have twice those ratings).

Movin's 'alleged' target audience is adults 25-54, and most of the music that KPWR played from 1987-1990 or thereabouts has been burnt to a crisp.

Of course, that could also describe Movin's current library; Sanatana's 'Smooth' and Madonna's 'Dress You Up' are just two of the MANY burnt titles in their library.

Wrong. It's target is WOMEN 25-44.

That is just not true, a majority of the big hits that played on power 106 from 1987-1990 have not been played on the radio since they were popular. It is just the latest case of consultants playing what they want, not what the target audience wants. Ha ha, just kidding, they are just ignorant of market history.

Dees is a legend, but he sounds really dated now.
I don't think he sounds dated at all for the format he's doing. He isn't on a top 40. What he sounds like is lost trying to appeal to Latinos with a team of people who aren't up to his standards of professionalism.

Saw a Movin billboard with Rick Dees and his "big butt" on it today. Better campaign. Now, if the station would only sound better...

What I don't quite understand is why Emmis didn't hire major market talent to fill out the schedule from the start. There is no shortage of jocks that are out of work in the LA and surrounding areas that would sound great on Movin'. I know that everyone says it was a money issue, but they eventually started to hire people. I just feel that by then it was too late. If they didn’t have the bucks, why bother? Guess they over estimated Rick Dees ability to bring the audience in. But even if they sampled, they didn’t stay because of the product after morning drive.

If they really had all their ducks in order when the format was flipped, had promotions ready, plus billboards and TV spots heavily blanketing the city and airwaves they may have had a chance. But I also think that the format itself still would be a tough sell. Just not a big enough hole to fill. The old rule is, find a hole and fill it. If you're going to do a format that's already in place, wouldn't it have made sense to go after one that has a bigger slice of the pie? Just thinking... As for Dees, I have to agree, his style isn't dead, but he needs to re-tool the people surrounding him. They can still do the bi-lingual thing, just find good people...
