Movin Music

OK, so we've talked a lot about Utica/Rome lately... how about some Syracuse? Ever since Movin' 100.3 signed on the air, I've enjoyed listening most of the time. Is it just me -- or is the station's music rotation just a little "off" sometimes? For example, in the car the other night, I heard the following songs in this order:

Rihanna / Umbrella (2007)
Teena Marie / Lovergirl (1984)
Jennifer Lopez / Jenny from the Block (2002)
<Legal ID, 8 minutes after the hour>
Will Smith / Miami (1997)

Kinda makes you think of that song from Sesame Street, "one of these things is not like the others..."

Exactly which demo are they going for? There are people in the younger end of the 18-34 demo, where the span between Rihanna and Teena Marie is literally an entire lifetime. (Makes me feel old to think of that.) It just seems kinda weird to be listening to a hot, new, upbeat song, then they suddenly dive 23 years back in time... only to launch right back to 2002 moments later.

I'm not quite sure how to explain it. Does anyone else think it's weird? It's not necessarily a "bad" thing but it's definitely something different. Maybe that in itself is the point.

Sounds like they were going for dance music. There are very few guys that could pull it off in Syracuse, but it would have to be well-thought programming possibly backed up with regular live broadcasts from a club. The problem is the current dwi laws and the fact that a station cant broadcast from a bar without risking a lot. The stations need to connect with the people better. Not necessarily the "listeners", but the potential listeners in the entire signal. Its a big job.

I wonder how the station is doing ratings-wise? The frequency has never done much, so for a lot of people it's a BRAND NEW station anyway. I wish we had some numbers--even what position they rank 12+ would be telling.

Personally I think Movin' sounds great, even though the music does swing around a bit more than a young listener might expect. I hope it's working for their target audience, it's a nice change of pace from the sleepy lite stuff and pre-gurgitated CHR stuff elsewhere on the dial.
