Movin no more

All Access announced today that Bonneville's Movin 101.1 will become an ESPN Radio affiliate beginning in January. They promise local shows and local play by play, but no details provided.

I think "Movin'" is going to be the next "Jammin' Oldies." Over the next six months or so, I think we will see most of them flip, the next will probably be LA.

Don't give it that much credit. Jammin' Oldies was successful for at least a brief time. Aside from Seattle, Movin' never was. Movin' only boasts 12 stations, and one of those is going away soon. It's been a turkey pretty much from the getgo!

Unfortunatly, after listening to your version of "Movin'," I must say that you are lucky that it is going away sampled vin'" station in the pastrhythmic, and have heard some really good music. However, on Thursday, when I heard the news that WMVN was changing, I decided to take a listen. Instead of hearing good, upbeat dance music like I have in the past, WMVN was nothing more than a haven of rock songs, with some current pop thrown in. Among some of the songs were:
*No Doubt "Don't Speak,"
*Nickle Back "Rock Star,"
*Mariah Carry "Always Be My Baby,"
And other rock songs I don't recognize. It's a disaster! Then again, that's what you get with a station run by the Morman Church that tries to run a secular young leaning format. We have a great "Movin'" statio

Okay, people, sorry about that last post. I’m blind, and use talking software, which sometimes won’t let me edit these posts on this board for some reason. So, I’ve rewritten this in a word document, and am reposting all my thoughts, because, Gosh Darn it! I’m gonna say what I wanna say ‘bout this!

Unfortunatly, after listening to your version of “Movin’,” I must say that you are lucky it is going away. I’ve sampled WMVN in the past, and have heard some really good rhythmic music. However, when I heard the news that WMVN “Movin’” would be changing format, I decided to listen to it online for the last time. Instead of hearing good, upbeat dance music like I have in the past, WMVN was nothing more than a haven of Rock songs, with a cupple of current songs thrown in. Among the songs were:
*No Doubt “Don’t speak,”
*Mariah Carry “Always Be my Baby,”
*Nickleback “Rock Star,”
And other rock songs I didn’t recognize. It’s a disaster! Then again, that’s what you get with a station run by the Morman church that tries to run a secular young leaning format. We have a great “Movin’” station where I live in upstate NY. It actually plays rhythmic music. Compared to the “Movin’” station in Syracuse, NY, your “Movin’” station sucks, ST. Louis! Problem for you guys is: You’re getting a third sports station! Do you really need 3 sports stations?

Rhythmic music has never done well in St. Louis; unfortunately the format was DOA, and Bonneville's tweaking of the format did improve the ratings somewhat, but it was too little, and too late, and Bonneville has a large investment in the upgrade of 101.1 to 100,000 Watts, so it really isn't a surprise. It should be interesting to see how Sports fares on the big 101.1 signal, but I am doubting that it will break a 2.5 in 12+ anytime soon.

And then there’s the question of Sports radio in ST. Louis. You have “The Fan,” which is not gonna be touched, cuzz it’s a “Fox Sports” affiliate. But then, oh boy, you’ve got another station in your city that just got it’s “Bye-Bye” notice from “ESPN Radio.” What will they do? “Sporting News Radio,” perhaps? Or, will ST. Louis be down to 2 sports stations again in 2009?

I have a feeling you're probably correct that all sports on 101.1 won't break a 2.5 12+, especially if it doesn't get any of the major sports teams. However, if it gets a 2.5, it will do just fine. It could even be a top-5 biller with numbers like that. Remember, sports radio has the second highest power ratio (behind all news) and bills nearly double its ratings share.

Well 101.1 wont be getting the Cardinals because The Cardinals own part of 550 so unless they agree for an FM Simulcast on 101.1. the only teams the new ESPN 101.1 can hope for is Either the Blues or Rams

The St. Louis Movin sucks! I'm a 14 year old Hispanic from the Bay Area that likes Old and New Hip-Hop & R&B. Listen to my Movin in Oakland/San Francisco they play GOOD music.

IIRC, 101.1 has always been a dog signal in the market. Their signal doesn't go very far from the city.

you're presuming that owning part of 550 is sooo lucrative they just couldn't bear to sell it and leave?
