Movin' now Mainstream Top 40

SANDUSKY RADIO Rhythmic AC KQMV (MOViN 92.5)/SEATTLE has just re-branded itself as a Mainstream Top 40. It will continue to be called MOViN 92.5
"It really was a no-brainer for us," PD MAYNARD said. "We were practically there already. We are currently top 5 with women 18-34, 18-49 and 25-49 in this highly competitive PPM market. We are doing the work of a Top 40, but not getting any credit for doing so."
Added GM MARC KAYE, "This evolution of MOViN was simply a case of letting the horse have its head and we continue to look forward to the ride"
 
At least they're not playing all that annoying pop-rock 106.1 KISS FM plays. ::)

106.1 Kiss is a really really good station It's not cookie cutter like all of the other CC CHRs (minus Z100, Kiss LA, Kiss 108) it's one of the few good CHRs that ACTUALLY PLAY ROCK! Rock belongs on CHR just as much as Rhythmic Hits! And they're what #2 in the market They're kicking Movin's @$$ so it's working. So it's not crap when they're winning here. Also, they were horrible years ago and had horrific ratings. Ever since CC brought Kiss from CBS they went up in the ratings. It'll be kinda hard for Movin' to do this. There's a Hot A/C here I believe and they got Kiss & KUBE. That's gonna be tough. I say go for a format that's not in the Seattle Area. I HATE it when stations do this and try and cut into the pie that's already very small that usually doesn't work.
 
Pretty weird that MOViN was practically a rhythmic-heavy rhythmic ac... now they're a rhythmic-leaning CHR. If anything, you would expect them to go rhythmic like WiLD in Atlanta.... although that is a different situation. WiLD is the only rhythmic CHR in Atlanta, you have KUBE in Seattle. MOViN could work here, I think, anyway.
 
Reminds me of the transition that KNDD 107.7 did from their blend of alt and new wave back in the early 90's. And, much like that, my listening will be inversely related to their shifting to the new format.
 
yeah movin sucks. what a stupid move. i turned it on movin today and it sounds like they already let go of that monty person from mornings. they have the other traffic girl and someone named cal on there now.

my husband eric is going to take those idiots down. i talked to him a few minutes ago and he's fired up. he's already laid out his lucky sweater vest and kangol hat for tomorrow!

Yeah, I really love how they play cookie-cutter kiddie rock bands like Hey Monday or 30 Seconds to Mars. If I wanna hear real rock I'll listen to 107.7 The End or KISW. That's actual rock!
 
That whole "ladies room" morning show is pretty bad. Either do an all music morning show or do a personality based morning show, and to be all ladies is just weird. 2 minutes of crap per break could be 6 minutes more music per hour. If they want to compete with KISS they need a dude in there with some comedy chops to tear that other show apart.

Monty has been gone for a while BTW.

I worry that mamma might have died. She has been a no-show on these boards for some time. Now that Monty isn't on in the mornings--the show just isn't that same. I really enjoy Brooke, but I prefer them together. Afternoons are as painful as usual. I'm sure that will be changed shortly though.

Then what kind of "mainstream CHR" is it?

True CHR is a mix of everything. A lot of pop, some R&B, some rock, some alternative, even a little AC - all of it the BIGGEST, most popular hits (and up and comings) on today's charts. If you can narrow it all into 60 songs that play ad nauseum over and over and over and over - that's a CHR.

I had a feeling they would go mainstream CHR eventually, like the first incarnation of KBKS eventually did. But from listening to them yesterday, I don't hear much of a difference.....
 
Both are buttons on my dial along with the end, star and jack. Listen to kjr and kvi when i want a break and komo or kiro for news. Movin is already really a CHR and made this transition a while ago. The difference from a listeners perspective is simple: kiss plays pop rock and has personalities all day long, movin plays no pop rock and plays many more songs an hour with minimal personality. 90 minute music blocks even in am drive. movin is positioning itself right in between kiss and kube. makes sense. 18-34 in the last six months kube was tops in July, August, Sept, movin was second, kiss was not top five. In oct and the last couple of weeks in nov kiss is number one, kube second and movin 4th. kiss also has moved up 25-54. Good battle: Variety and personality against a music machine with pure CHR hits. Real winner will most likely be the End 18-34 or KISW as the pop stations beat each other up.

But if it has no Paramore, Sara Bareilles, Daughtry, etc, it's a rhythmic CHR. Not a mainstream.

The pop-rock end of it is pretty wimpy these days I'll admit, but that's CHR. I doubt KISW or KNDD will benefit from any of it because they never had to play any of this stuff in the first place. They're a whole different game altogether....

IIRC, then they kept the one with a chronic nasal problem and let go the somewhat talented, charming one? ???
 
Mama and Iknowitall have moved and don't give a lick about radio for the most part anymore.

Knowitall was and is a very talented ex-radioite.(I love making up new words)

Mama, a loose cannon! Should try comedy.

Movin is was and will always be a second tier station with second rate "talent." Brooke is a waste of space. They would have better luck with an all-music a.m. format.
